It has come to my attention that journalists of the Sigis are causing issues once again. People are starting to ask questions about murder cases that have happened in the Golden Bariaur.

The article in questions mentions several potential authors, including The Temple of the Abyss, the Doomguard and the Sensates. Most importantly the article is accusing us of covering something and depicts us as bullies, directly pointing at the name of Mesure IV Larris quoting exactly this sentence :

"Poison? Who said poison?! Pike it or I find a reason to arrest you!".

I'd like to know if that incident actually happened and if we have the situation under control in order to calm further inquiries by vigilantes planewalkers.

Best regards,

Namer Ta'Kan, communication and internal affairs department.

She gets an answer quickly:

Namer,

the journalist in SIGIS  was quite close to the truth this time as we are investigating the death of several patrons of the golden Bariaur in the Lady's Ward. Of course the article contains some rather wild speculation as well, as SIGIS thrives on rumours and half truths.

Nevertheless as many patrons are well connected and powerul our invstigations are done discreetly, especially as the cause of death is yet still unknown.

The cause of death might be poison but it also could also be a drug used (perhaps illegaly) by the patrons.

If you are interested in joining the ongoing investigations let me know.

Finck

Soon some documents arrive, among them a permit that allows her to join the investigtion team or start some investigations of her own.

Shana will beforehand make sure she doesn't have any duty and then quickly went to start her own investigation, gathering as much notes as she could on the field before she joined the official investigation team.

There are few rumours circulating, few people talking about what happened in the Bariaur.

It seems there was some kind of party, some kind of feast- perhaps something that might not be very legal in Sigil but at the same time it is nothing the ideals of the upper planes forbid.

The official reports are telling her about the corpses found, the signs of some feast or celebration- and many exotic beverages used in this feast. Some of them have been smuggled into the Cage it seems and they were not part of the things usually offered by the Bariaur.

The team itself consists of her and two notaries- one of them working undercover- all of them reporting to Measure Finck.

Notary I Dolf is in uniform, meeting her in a small garden close to the Bariaur- the other Notary, some Dilenta, not joining them this time.

"Greetings."

He is a man in his early thirties, balding already, looking almost too small for the uniform he wears.

"You are familar with the mess that happened there?"

Shana presented herself. Saying she just got a report from a civilian. As an internal affairs member, she asked her Harmonium college if there was any other "investigators" around. The then told her colleges she does have some experience with chemical mixtures and is able to recognize traces of magic.

Both arrive at the Mortuary after crossing the Hive, the locals watching them warily. They are greeted with distant politeness, the human namer letting them wait in the main hall while she hurries to find a superiour.

After some time they are approached by a pale, thin girl, the dustmen robes seeming too big for her, her eyes a deep shining blue, her head shaven bald.

"I am Initiate Four Garmain. You are here for the bodies of those who died in the Bariaur incident?"

"Indeed, Notary I Ta'Kan here." She said politely. Before she went on investigating the corpses, the tried to analyse their blood using her knowledge in alchemy and used her training at recognizing magical influences as well. She then let her superior do the legal analysis.

((Note Shana isn't a spell caster : just a monk that invested some points in spellcraft)).

"Well, I know some guys from SIGIS were looking around and the Dusties of course took the corpses out quickly- the guys at the Bariaur are not keen on having corpses down in one of their gaudy pleasure cellars."

The Notary looks over the streets just outside the gardens, taking his helmet off.

"I also expect some private investigators sent by those posh families... first they don't care what their kids do and then they act all shcked if they do drugs or some of the really fucked up stuff the Sensates are known to do.

Speaking of the Sensates... they might send someone as well.

By the way- this is yours. Finck gave it to me for you."

Giving her a small wooden box that shows the Harmonium crest he goes on:

"We cannot have a Namer involved, he said. So congratulations or whatever. I don't care about what pin you wear personally... as long as you are good at what you do. Those alchemical and magical skills of yours will be handy- my own skills are different. If you want to take a look at the place.. here is the warrant- just in case that stuck up bastards make troubles."

He gives her an envelope showing both the Harmonium and Fraternity seal.
