A Notice For The Notaries

Hograth makes a mental note to find the mother soon but first he heads down to the cells to meet Notary Xzav.

However he also doubles the frequency of patrols nearby the boys house, instructing the troopers to report everything unusual happening immediately, telling them the boy might be the target abduction or assassination.

Nodding to the guards he enters the dungueons, asking the officer on duty politely to be led to the Notary.

After the interview Hograth sits down in his office, thinking about what he had learned.

A pact with Devils, possession...

He cannot do much about this now so he waits for the result of Ny's divinations. Time flies and he has to return the borrowed locket in a few hours.

While waiting for the results of the Divinations Hograth writes a letter to the City courts:

From: Hograth Thorn, Measure III

Ladies, Sirs,

in the matter of Notary Xzav's attempted assault on two boys I want to inform you that the Notary is willing to take full responsibilities for his behaviour.

On the plane of Acheron he already submitted himself to Mercykiller justice, accepting the consequences for what he did and in the light of our recent attempt of closer cooperation I ask the courts to keep the trial short and return the trooper to Mercykiller Justice Falah to face his punishment.

He leads the woman to his office, invites her to sit down, prepares some tea for both of them.

"What happened?" the halforc asks when pouring the tea into their cups.

The Notary is transferred from Harmonium custody to The Prison, after which he is sent to the care of The Mercykillers Acheron to serve out the rest of his grim sentence.

A Notary comes to find Hogarth.

"Sir. There's some old women at the front desk to see you, I was going to throw her out but she said you'd know who she was. She seems upset."

"Thank you, Notary."

Of course Hograth goes to see the woman.

Her eyes are ringed red with tears and her breathing is ragged she seems to have been crying she rounds on Hogarth.

"You promised me he would be safe! You said we wouldn't be separated! Now they've taken him, he is gone!"

"Who took him? And when?"

Hograth invites her with a gesture to follow him. "Please tell me what you know. The more you can share with me the easier it will be for us to find Shea.

After our first meeting I doubled the patrols in the area. Perhaps these troopers have seen something as well."

He smiles at her. "We'll find him."

As they talk a notary approaches, handing Hograth a note which he reads quickly, then answers hastily on the same sheet. Then he sends the man off with both the answer and a spoken invitation for Ny' to see him in his office.

He seems in deep thought as he returns the locket to the woman with a small, mumbled, 'Thank you' but then he adresses the woman again. "Please follow me to my office, we need to talk. We need to find Shea."
