Sigil: City of Doors

Kiera, after drawing up the proper paperwork, would enter the city hall lobby with a young woman. He approaches the clerk's desk with a handful of papers and a bag of coins.

"I need witnesses for a contract of personal sale, and these licenses for the trade and ownership of persons," She sets the papers down on the desk, separating them into three stacks.

"This is the license application for this female, to make it legal for her to traffic in slaves. Sign here dear," Kiera indicates a line on the application for the woman and sets down the requisite jink for the license.

The second stack of papers she signs herself and also sets out a number of coins. "These are for myself, to traffic in, and own slaves."

The last paper is longer, with much more writing. "This is a contract between us. She is selling herself to me, in exchange for two thousand gold coin, and my bond to take care of her, feed, house and clothe her, and help her find the being that has tainted her soul and remove it. She is to be my assistant, messenger, servant, and slave for a period of time until I have freed her of this affliction, or we both agree to dissolve this contract. Sign here dear."

She indicated one line marked seller for the young woman to sign. Kiera has already signed the line marked purchaser. Once the woman signs Kiera will hand her a bag containing 2000 gold (will give to the PC in game next time we are on)

The contract basically reads that agreement in more detail.

((I've intentionally left the PC's name off, the Player should know about this and be expecting it. I'll write up a more formal contract when I have time and the player and I can discuss and edit as needed, just wanted to get this post up as Kiera is anxious to formalize the verbal agreement between the two. The girl I figure needs a license to sell herself, as trafficking in slaves without one is illegal. Kiera will need one to buy her, and keep her, hence the two licenses for her. The contract, from what I understand in previous posts needs two witnesses from the fraternity to affirm the girl is under no duress, the player of said young girl will hopefully post their RP to show that. DMs feel free to do what you do ;) if you wish to do any questioning, etc))

((( The only real problem with the scenario is we don't permit players to create child characters. You'd have to alter it slightly to reflect this. )))

The pale woman behind the desk listens.

"Namer Shadowshade your time with your Faction demonstrates that you are of proper character and integrity. Your license to both own and sell slaves is granted. However given the nature and the many legal pit falls of the business upon which you wish to embark your friend here would need to be assessed before any such license is granted to her so decline the second request."

Caterina stamps Kirasien's form approved and the second rejected.

"If I may offer some advice, as you have a permit to trade slaves should you wish to take a third party into your care then all you need do is have them sign a written statement indicating they consent to do so, it is not required for them to sell themselves as you put it. Your friend may appeal this decision in writing within the next thirty days. Is there anything else we can help you with?"

Kierisen thinks over the matter a moment, then nods.

"I will amend the agreement," she looks at the young woman with her. "Let's call it an advance so that you can purchase the basics, and invest for life after our contract is complete."

((The text of the contract itself, with possible tweaks after discussing with the other player. Her and Kiera talked about it in game but had no time to finalize the verbiage before we both had to run.))

I will:

• Agree to clothe, feed, house and provide for the petitioner's basic needs.
• Protect and defend the petitioner against those who will seek her harm, or to take advantage.
• Investigate the source of the eldritch taint in her blood and assist in her separation from it.
• Teach the petitioner the skills and talents necessary to survive life in Sigil and the surrounding planes.
• Finally, help her seek a return to her home plane, if such a return is possible.
  

The petitioner agrees to:

• Serve her contract owner with devout loyalty in all things during the terms of their agreement.
• Enter into no contracts with other parties without the prior permission of the contract owner above.
• Remain chaste in public, clean, presentable, and an example of her Mistress in all things.
• Learn to at least assist in the contract owner's work, with the option to learn those skills for future work.
• Remain trustworthy and honest in carrying out her Mistress' requests so she can assist with the contract owner's delicate, and confidential work.
  

This contract is binding until such time as the contract owner has fulfilled her obligation so separate the petitioner from her eldritch taint and return her home, or both parties agree to dissolve the contract.  The contract can be amended at the agreement of both parties and re-signed within the Fraternity's witness.

Having not seen the young woman since this visit, and having no real desire to continue the contract Kiera visits the offices of the Guvners again and asks to have the contract nullified. She also returns her licenses to purchase an own slaves. She doesn't offer any explanation and if asked she says, "Just get rid of them."
