The crushing of the Holy Symbol was not part of the ritual but defiling Pelor's symbol that way seems to have increased that ones resistance against turning as well as its overall toughness.

Not long after Emila returned to the Mortuary she sees the shadows ripple between two upright sacophagi and Xifan appears, stepping out of his hiding place, as usual bowing deeply.
"Your High Malevolence! Let me congratulate. The mercenaries were most successful!
The winged one and the giant destroyed the Headquarters, killed the leaders and shooed a demon of Juiblex... if it is killed or incapacitated I do not know yet.
The other one showed a promising talent for cruelty.... inspiering some wretched addicts to acts of cannibalism, even doing the same. I was most surprised and increased that one's bonus.
Sadly this grisly and most cruel display also attracted the attention of the Harmonium and the ire of the Xaos- who are now hunted and harrassed as people remember their own Starved Dogs Barking group.. and associate those with what has happened. Both groups have placed a bounty on that man's head, I fear."

Emila listens as she continues the process of embalming a corpse. The members of The Cabal she knew only through the records she had taken from Neefe. Mauric's name however she had recognized as an acquaintance of hers from Khazeet's. She had always considered him a harmless if not entirely unpleasant buffoon. She was suprised to learn of his involvement and even more suprised to hear how well he did.
"I hope he didn't make them listen to the bagpipes. I know I said I wanted an example made but their are depths I did just not wish to stoop to."
She smiled mostly to herself before addressing Xifan.
"Keep an eye on him if he falls into the hands of the hardheads he could expose you and that would result in me having to do something regrettable to the two of you, and as you are both so very useful I would rather avoid that."
She adds as an after thought
"If he returns to the temple I'd like to be made aware. Obviously make sure everyone is well paid but unaware that I am the one paying them. We may have work for them again soon."
