The doctor brings Krystelle over to the box. "Well, as you can no doubt see, it quite a complex locking mechanism, Miss Krystelle. I am hopeful, however, that you being far for more skilled in such than I, we can piece this apart. It is not likely to respond whatsoever to magic, however. I think I'll allow you lead on this lock, and I willl assist as you think best. That is, once we get to the actual lock, for now, it seems more like a puzzle, almost. But where to start, I haven't yet got a clue. Any ideas?"

As the knock comes at the door, Miranda glances toward the entry way and lifts the bed sheets from her waist up and around her torso covering at the very least her womanly features. She moves to sit on the bed they had placed her in, arm's wrapped around her self.
"Aye M'lady, I'm awake I was just looking at myself in a mirror".
She runs a hand over the intricate tattoos on her bald head as her eyes watch the door.

Krystelle peruses the mechanism atop the box for a time, as well as its construction --
dark cherrywood, with golden bands around the edges. She would press her fingers onto
the wood, and then onto the gold, feeling out the hardness of the material. Then, she'd
turn to the mechanism, and begin to fiddle with the pins and levers, carefully working the
mechanism to get a feel for what moves what where, and so on. Without looking up from
the box, she speaks.
"Does the box bear any magick which would prevent it from being cut? The typical method
for getting into a container with a complex lock is to bypass the lock entirely. If one were
to take a small hand saw to the very edge of the box and cut the wood away, would the
box retaliate in any way that you can see?"
EDIT: (( Let me know if I need an INT check. Krystelle's not trying to open the box at this
time, simply to get a sense of the mechanism, in case simply cutting the box open isn't an
option. ))

The House of Healing, Sigil.
Each pin rotates both clockwise and anti-clockwise in direction, moving the cogs in the same direction the pin is turned save for those connected to the levers. The cogs themselves are wholly analogue and do not seem to click into place at any given location, other than where they come up against the levers.
The lock is a tricky one to figure out, as it's 'laws' do not completely match up as a whole and likely considered more of a puzzle than a conventional lock. Some parts allow one to undo an action by turning back the cogs, whereas others can only go forward based on the levers actions. She does not notice anything out of the ordinary beyond this. 'Brute forcing' the lock, however, sets off another ring of the bell within bringing the total dings heard to two.
Try as she may, Krystelle just can't seem to find the correct combination to complete the puzzle. (DC not met). Regardless, her efforts are not in vain. She may come to the assumption that the bell that rings within is in fact a warning to prevent illegal tampering of the mechanism, thus there may be some kind of consequence or trap within even if she cannot sense one.

Luizlurgh, Preularith.
Miranda finds herself in a simple, but welcoming homestead. Wooden floorboards stretch out before her; a large table, chairs and kitchen comprised of similar materials. Pots and pans hang on thhe walls, alongside drying herbs which drift slightly in the breeze from an open window. Half-melted candles lay scattered in their positioning around the room, kitchen branching off from the main room.
That appealing aroma strengthens at her arrival, the merchant greeted at the door by the gentle smile of Ann Ridgeway - former proprietress of the Silver Steed Inn. The mousy haired woman looks her over with no small amount of concern, before gesturing to one of the oaken chairs around the table where her husband sat also.
Upon the table's surface lay a decently sized tray of freshly cooked meat sliced thinly and bathed in a herb marinade; beef in fact. The kind only a prime, or coin and import could provide. Beside the tray lay another, a platter of cheeses and slices of recently baked bread with a crusty shell. Three empty plates sat waiting.
"Please Mi'Lady. Won't you take a seat?" she offers to Miranda as her husband stands to politely welcome their guest and offer her a hand to her seat if need be. "There is plenty to go 'round."
Once Miranda is seated and drinks have been poured, water or wine depending on preference, her plate is piled high with all manner of available food. Finally easing in their fussing, the Ridgeways move to fill their own plates. Fork lifted to his maw, the broadly built Jareth poses a question before shoveling the morsel eagerly.
"How are you feeling, M'Lady? You've had us worried."

She sits at the table with a warm smile on her face, but despite the aroma of food and a pregnant hunger she doesnt begin eating right away, instead waiting to see if this nice couple observes any thankful rituals before they begin their dailey meal or meals. She does notice the quality of the food present and realises how she misses a home cooked meal.
Dont get her wrong....shes a fan of cookies kitchen skill but..
She eyes the food for a hungry moment before bowing her head and smiling to the couple.
"I am well thanks to your kind hospitality, I was afraid i was going ti perish inside that inn and it was by pure luck i managed to escape when I did", it was a..difficult night for all of us.

"Indeed, the gods must smile on you, M'lady." Ann offers quietly with a small smile. The couple make no prayers before their meal, the mousy haired woman only pausing in her conversation and preparations to scoop a small handful of grain from a pouch at her side and lean back in her seat to trail it along the window sill. "You are not hurt, are you? Perhaps we could send for a doctor if so. It would not do to have you both a guest in this house and injured."
The woman finally lifts her dulled knife and proceeds to butter her bread, placing a slice of fresh cheese and warm beef on it's spongey surface before folding it over on itself. Lifting it to her lips for a neat bite, both she and her husband exchange a brief glace between them. After a few moments, Jareth blurts out his curiosity.
"Forgive me, your grace... but who are you?"

Upon seeing the way in which this seems to work, Brindas begins examining the cogs for a pattern, or other possible representation.EM Lyrium,Jul 18 2015 wrote: -- Brindas & Krystelle --

Int roll: 18 + 14 mod = 32
Lore roll: 12+38 = 50
Brindas draws a lot of insight on their arrangement from his own knowledge of cogs, after all, he's designed several models of modrons with cogs as a hobby sinc e his first few weeks in the Cage. He spends his time visualization and sketching possibilities before actually moving anything, though, just a good little wizard.

"...Interesting. The bell tolls for those who touch parts of the puzzle not meant to be
directly manipulated. I wonder... does that include the box itself?"
Krystelle would then produce a rolled-up leather case from a tiny belt pouch. Unrolled,
the case reveals several metal loops and miniature pockets filled with lockpicks, trap
probes, calipers, scissors, clamps, and all manner of other tools. This is her basic kit
of completely mundane thieves' tools, the kind she typically uses when time is not an
issue. For this purpose, however, using enchanted tools may set off the box, and she's
not willing to risk setting off a magick trap that she doesn't necessarily understand.
Slender fingers select a small sawblade with a wooden handle, about the same size as
a metal file -- indeed, the flat of said sawblade is rough and ridged like a metal file.
The edge, however, is serrated with sharp metal teeth. Krystelle would touch this edge
to the surface of the box, away from the mechanism. Specifically, she would touch the
tool to the top lid of the box, all the way on the right hand side, two inches from the
edge -- as two inches was her estimate of the thickness of the box's walls. And then she
would tilt the saw against the corner of the box, and drag a single stroke of the sawteeth
along the corner between the top lid and the rear wall, two inches from the right side.
If at any time during this entire process she hears the box's little chime, she would stop
what she's doing and put her thieves' tools away.

The House of Healing, Sigil.
The doctor's keen perceptions result in a series of small sketches, with each one he feels closer to grasping the concept of the puzzle before him. By the fourth, he believes he has it - a combination of numbered pins and subsequent turns needed to trigger an unlock.
Additionally, having looked over the box, Brindas has an inkling that the box's design is not the kind one normally comes into contact with and is likely imported. His first thought is likely Mechanus, given it's accessibility and the number of goods imported from it on a regular basis. This doesn't sit quite right, however. He then, perhaps, recalls the name of a distant prime. Eberron.

The House of Healing, Sigil.
Krystelle succeeds in making a small incision on the box's surface, though the single draw of the blade does little to the overall thickness of the wood. It does not sound an alarm, however. The bell remains quiet to the scratch on the wooden lid. Evidently with such a tool, it would take some time to cut through the wood if she proceeds - not impossible, merely time consuming.
