Coristia spots the notice... staring at the poster for long time, a rough tone behind her grunts "Well whot it says luv?" which caused her to twitch and turn around quick to see the dwarf with a stein and gruff outlook. "Oh sod it, another primer, come on, I ain't hurtin' ye" The dwarf gestured at the poster again. "Ye be soddin' starin' it fer ten minutes, whot it says? Save me time, aye?" to which Coristia shook her head helplessly, her gaze turning to the rough cobblestone street, a whimper and soft murmuring.. "WHOT!? Speak up, ain't hearin' a thin' over tha growin' of tha Razorvine..<incomprehensible grunting>" this caused Coristia to twitch again and gulp. It was nothing new, however so she managed and stuttered audibly this time "I.. I c-can't r-read..."

This got a loud thundering laughter out of the dwarf, a swig from the stein which smelled of strong brewed ale, only to continue with a amused exhaling and inhaling, a theatrical wipe of "tear" from eye with the dwarves free hand, he spoke again "Bloody stared at it ten minutes ta notice ye cannae read? Grand.." This caused annoyed huff and angry glare casted on the dwarf, she seemingly got hurt over the words and laughter, defiant childish demeanor only grasped a grin out of the dwarf, but he wasn't one of harmful nature and gave Coristia a calming hand waving.. "Arite, arite.. calm down ye princess winces" a wink given at Coristia which only got a bland look and another huff, and ironically another laughter out of the dwarf.

"Give me a tad space an' tha Stormhamma' tell ye whot it says" Coristia made room for the dwarf, she was curious still because of the nice pictures of people in masks. The dwarf started to read in murmuring tone the litany of marketting "Roit roit.. so a soddin' masquerade.. bleh.. hidin' yar faces? If 'tis was back in tha mountains we'd all laugh and sneer at 'tis. Bloody disgrace I tell ye, whot ye need is a cider festival, now tha's a party!" the dwarf went off grunting and mumbling about Cagers fetish for masks...

Coristia however turned her look again on the poster, pursing her lip and the edges curved slightly upwards. She stuttered "A m-masquerade..." <a thoughtful hum> after which she promptly scurried towards the Bazaar on look out for masks.

Though leaving early, Amycus Thorne attended the beginning of the ball, but needed to depart far sooner than he wished due to an emergency mapping session at the Hall of Records. His date, Pan, was not only looking fantastic, but supported him excellently during his last-minute entry into the bardic competition.

Although not a finalist with his poetry reading, he did find an opportunity to market his business (which caused quite a response from an attendee who sounded a lot like Hildmor).

On his way out he dropped off a note to the hostess of the ball. It read:

Dear Madam,

It truly was an honor to attend your masquerade ball this fine evening. What a gift to come and socialize, partake in fine drinks, laugh and share our hearts with friends and neighbors.

My best to you and yours for putting together such a lovely evening. I hope to see more of you in the future.

Cheers! *signed* Amycus Thorne

((Thanks to all the DMs and players who put time, energy and effort into this event! I wish I could have stayed for the rest of it. Fine work, everyone! What a great server we have! Oh, and the new bar area and merchants look awesome! Great job!))

((First thx to DM Duke, Agony_Aunt, Werebeagle9 and Xndar - also any others I might've missed that also were hosting the show =) ))

Anxiety. Anxiety was what described Coristia best when she was queueing to the Masquerade party, a chill ran down her spine only of the thought of to become song contest. Painfully slow, but finally she got in and produced her invitation to one of the hosts, strutting around watching all the masked guests and staff members alike. "Can I get something for you today?" a casual tone behind her asked, which caused her to twitch and turn around, however on the floor rug her balance less than graceful, the quick turn nearly made her fall, but the waiter of many taverns snatched a grasp of her arm and managed to keep her from falling. A sigh of relief, then her eyes snapped open and she pulled her arm free "... I'll come back later." said the waiter and walked away. Another sigh. The night had not started well.

Then the true party had just began, her ears perked and she strutted towards the stage where a woman in mask announced the bard contest, a nervous fidgetting from Coristia. She listened the instructions and signed up to the contest. First there was a man, but she didn't remember much out of his act... she was too nervous thinking of her own performance.
Earlier that day... Coristia spaced out as she looked to the distant Cage, and also really nothing. Her thoughts deep within, the song she had planned to sing in the masquerade. "May I sit here?" So deep in her thoughts it was that she whimpered and twitched, nearly fell down with her chair as she darted her eyes at Aeron audibly exclaiming "B-broke!" followed by a sigh and averting of her eye contact. Apologies followed, and queries... Coristia explained that she was going to sing a song... maybe, but admitted that she might be too afraid to. This got a reassuring smile out of him and offered to make a potion of courage to deal with it... [/li]
NEXT VUN! came the shout, her eyes snapped and looked around, then got up rigidly, strutted towards the stage, audible gulp. The trembling masked female went to the front stage, eyes darting towards the audience, she felt like she was naked and everyone was laughing at her, a whimper and she managed to stutter* H-h-h-hello?... I.. um.. I.. h-h-h.. her stutter worse than before, she sighed and took a deep breath, then her hand reached down to her sash pouch, pulling up a potion of milk white mildly transparent liquid, another gulp, but then! slip! the potion slipped from her trembling hands, eyes went wide open and her hands darted to catch it, it bounced on her hands a couple of times until she managed to clutch it in middle of her both trembling hands... amused laughter from the crowd which only got another whimper out of Coristia. Quickly the potion was uncorked and the contents emptied through her lips. It took a moment to react, but her trembling was gone. In fact she hadn't felt this good for long time, she looked at the audience with newly gained confidence and the potion was placed to her sash pouch again.
She started to wave from side to side and released a soft hum before she started her song, her hands drawn together and held each other, her eyes fluttered shut as she continued to wave from side to side, and so the actual song began... "It was not hard - to choose all the words.. that I should... put in my mouth... in my own play of shadows - between lines, word for word... See who I am?... out where nothing's forgiven... a small yet very loud part of me... - is still screaming after..." She trailed out and continued to wave from side to side in slow steady pace. Then her tone grew more confident and harmonically loud as the chorus began. "Good enough is good enough for me - as it should always be... ... You broke Coristia when she was weak... gues it was not meant to be... I had a dream, you broke - with your twisted way... Still looking over me? - please... take your time... but go away" she shook her head a bit and continued the soft tune "The times change... you were the peak to Coristias needs... The antipeak lured you away - more than once... I know; I am free." Her tune again coming out stronger for the last tunes "Good enough is good enough for me... as it should... always... be..." she trailed out slowly on the final words, then gave a deep bow at the applauds. She felt good and strutted confidentally away of the stage. [/li]
A few other performances ensued, alas the effect of the potion wore off. Again her skittish nature took over... and now it was time to get back on the stage as the voting started... again trembling in the stage she stood there stiffly. The voting ensued and then finished. The hosts took a moment to discuss the results... and then announced... VE HAVE A DRAV! A BARD DUEL VILL ENSUE BETWEEN CORISTIA AND KREE TO DECIDE VINNER! her trembling got worse, there was room made in the stage for the two, Kreeyzia took her lute on her hands calmly.

Audible gulp... Coristia looked around, again uncomfortable chill running down her spine, her stomach felt like ever raging blood war, every limb paralyzed... before she realized she had yelped loudly and ran off the stage whimpering and whining, away of the main hall... to a quiet corner sniffling and weeping. Few cutters approached to comfort her and try to get her back to the stage, or she'd be forfeited... she was ashamed, and center of attention at her weak moment didn't make her feel any better. One of the hosts, Maelfina, came to confirm if she was out of contest... Coristia shook her head with expression of utmost defeat on her face "N-n-not g-going b-back t-there..." she stuttered and sighed. The contest was over. Kreeyzia won.

She sighed again, and pouted at her humiliating defeat. The red robed masked woman again, she came to comfort her. Stating a number above the originally allowed voting rules and gesturing at Coristia Nine... her voice distant like an echo, then gestured at Kreeyzia. Zero... again like an echo her voice emitted out behind the mask. Fingers moving to her mask as if to try to make smile on the pale white expressionless object. Edges of Coristias lips curved slightly upwards, it had calmed her down a bit...

((PS. Apologies for anyone not mentioned, but I try to keep the story as tidy as possibly =) and my memory is cluttered like limbo itself.))

Well the evening had gone far better than Kallastria had anticipated! The guests were plentiful and suberbly costumed, the jokes manyfold and bawdy, and the catering and bartending services were top notch. The guest list was a veritable who's who list of the City of Doors, and even some of the factols not expected to attend had shown up, socializing amongst their peers and participating in the general revellry.

Kallastria was in her element, hosting event after event, introducing the competitors, tossing out witty and bawdy jokes like they were candy. And delightfully the crowds responded and stepped up to join in at every turn, turning out a heated Bard's Tournament (won by the lovely Kreeyzia and her poetic recital), a downright scandalous Bachelor Auction (poor poor Hildmor being bid 9000 jink from the very male Zipporath, before thankfully being outbid by Kreeyzia), a very competitive Miss Sigil Pageant (won by the way too cute hin Emeraldin), the brainbox-teasing succubus-hosted gameshow (won by a single point by the sexily-clad Kari), the drinking competition, (won, though marginally, by the oderous goblin Troady the Blue), the arm-wrestling (taken with ease by the mighty Orion), and finally the dart-throwing contest (won by the drowess Nallia, though under the pseudonym Kosh).

Throughout the evening Kallastria had scanned the crowd for signs of her friend Felicia, but she didn't show......had something happened to her? Ah well, no time for that now, Kally had the next event to run. She'd find out in the morning then.

Finally came time for the closing speeches, which she promised she'd keep short and sweet. Maelfina (what a great costume by the way!) and Kallastria headed to the stage to bid their guests a good evening. And all was said and done, Kallastria collapsed into the nearest comfy sofa, exhausted but content with the way her evening had gone.

OOC My thanks to everyone who showed up, which was a far greater number than originally anticipated, so YAY!

Special thanks out to Duke, Agony Aunt, and Cere for helping make the event run smoothly! Bigtime Kudos :D

((Sorry i had to leave when i did, but sleep was calling me. Thanks to werebeagle9 for getting the ball (pun intended) rolling, and kudos to Duke for his efforts. Also thanks to everyone who participated and made a great event.

And for those who didn't hear the dark of why the event start was delayed... erm... a certain DM (erm... me) did something very silly which resulted in us having to reset quite a bit. :banghead: )).

((This event was Awesome, with Awesomesauce, covered in an Awesome wrapper. Both of my characters attending had an excellent time and I got to RP Pan's soft and flirty side for the first time ever.

I hope that everyone realizes that they will never hear the end of Emmy winning the Miss Sigil Contest. hehe.

In any case I love these social event and i hope we are able to do something like this again real soon. Excellent job to all parties involved for this event, I give it two thumbs up and five gold stars.))
