The Longest Night

Norman shakes his head at Thist's suggestion.

"I cannot be combat ready with the staff in my hands and we do not know what might lurk here. I stay with my shield and mace... but thank you for the offer."

John, with Ben now beside him, remains inside with the door closed. His companions were further ahead and he preferred to remain on guard duty than to try to catch up.

Thist nods and casts mage armor on Norman. "Can never be to safe eh?"

As they open the door they realize it has a lock but it has been left open. The stairs are stone narrow and steep but it is too dark to see the bottom for Norman Thist may have more of a chance with his elven eyesight but it is hard for him to see past the armoured man in front of him on the narrow staircase.

Meanwhile nothing disturbs man or dog as they stand guard duty.

Norman quickly casts Light on his shield then moves the stairs down slowly- aware that there might be other traps around he watches his steps.

Holding the shield high enough to preotect himself as well as to illuminate the stairs he is tense- and there is sweat on his forehead, the poison still taking its toll.

Thist switches to his elven darkvision and makes sure to try and look futher down the stairway ahead of Norman. He stays close. within grabbing distance just in case Norman needs to pushed or pulled out of the way.

"Be careful eh. And if there are no traps on the stairs, more than likely we're going to have some at the bottom."

Norman would realize that all the wands contain the same spell, that it is of the evocation school and he could quite easily operate them should he chose to.
