A sadistic grin crosses Emila's face as she leers down at her fallen opponent. Her manner now more that of a cat with a dying bird than anything else. She places her boot on its back pushing into the ground. She leans closer to it and whispers into the place one would expect its ear to be.

"Do what I think you are going to do and I will wipe out every roach or bat you become in a burst of flame. If you can crawl to the portal before I get my bow you may have a chance."

She readies a firestorm spell should it start to shape shift her eyes never leave it as she steps slowly back to where she dropped the flame volley.

"I'd hurry were I you."

The creature reacts- its shape shifting into some strange snake, trying to slither through water and oil towards the nearby portal.

Emila grabs the bow as the creature changes forms. She clearly has no intention of letting it reach the portal. She pulls back the string and takes careful aim. She lets it get close enough to freedom to begin to hope it might escape before she lets fly with an arrow.

The creature almost makes it... but only almost. The arrows strike true, pinning the snake to some of the butning corpses that still litter the ground.

It changes back but Emila realizes that this time it is no trick, no other attempt to escape. The creature dies, what is left of its body quickly consumed by the flames.

And with this the portal shrinks and closes as well- the bird watching almost relieved.

Emila actually spits in contempt as the creature dies. She never cared for the people of the hive, she was more than happy to use the plague to pressure them into signing their lives away by joining the dustmen or to reanimate their bodies as unliving slaves. They were food or playthings to her and little more. However the creature had interfered with her food supply and for that it must pay, this is what had motivated her to act while so many others who would paint themselves as champions of the downtrodden and saviours of the hive had done nothing. Emila had wanted to watch the creature suffer more before it dies, she had been robbed of this. She looked up at the bird barely noticing it with a scowl.

"Looks like there's no way home for you now."

She turns and whistling to herself to raise her spirits she begins to walk back through the sewers to the mortuary, stopping only to exterminate any patch of rats bats or roaches that seem a bit to self aware for their own good as she goes.

The bird cocks its head, blinks, watches the vampire go with eyes that might be almost too smart- then it caws, fluttering down a small tunnel.... as if it knew exactly where to go.

The vermin swarm is dispersed for now but there are persisting romours that tell of insects reacting odd and almost organized- but this rumours are easily dismissed.

And so relative peace returns to the Hive- with only two Cagers knowing about this portal and what might be its key.
