Charae spends a great deal of her free time looking into Sigil's public libraries studying a great deal about the River Styx and the effects the waters have on someone exposed to it.
Specifically, she reads into which types of memories are removed, in what sequence they are lost, and if there is a way to manipulate which memories are removed.
Studying The River Styx

A few hours of research later, Charae found herself doodling on her note paper. The search for information on the River Styx and the water's properties was similar to the relationship between a needle and a haystack. Anyone Charae asked told her the same thing or completely contradicting things altogether. There was no consistency in her findings. It was like everyone had an opinion on how the water worked but nothing tangible.
Charae ran the feather of the quill in her hand under her chin as she thought. One source said that the water of the river took one's most potent memories. Another said it leaves the most powerful memories for last. Some said the memories taken were the most recent. Others said that it was random. You could drink the water and forget your name. You could drink the water and forget your whole family. She didn't find anything solid.
The drow woman wanted to know if there was a way for the water to be more predictable. She wanted to know if the water could remove a specific memory without risk of ruining the person's identity. Then again, if she wanted the means of memory manipulation, arcane methods would be more practical. Granted, she didn't trust wizards.
Charae sighed and closed one of the heavy books on the library desk before leaning back in her seat. She had a personal stock in this sort of research. It was all over her comely features. Seeing as she still had hours before she would go to sleep, and she wasn't quite in the mood for exploring anywhere, Charae stood up from the desk and looked for one more book about the subject. Maybe she'd have better luck this time.

A few days pass and Charae returns the books she lent from the library. Unsatisfied with her findings, the drowess turned to another branch of research. Perhaps examining the waters of the River Styx wasn't worth the effort and its effects were to unpredictable to be a reliable option for what she had in mind.
She had heard of the restricted areas within the Hall of Records but had no means to gain access to them. Charae was at a dead end for now.
