Levria has been seen at the Olde Spirit Inn of late, missing rarely a meal, getting cakes by the... er... cake, and eating them whole. The tab belongs to Validine Veladom for what was agreed to be a lifetime supply of said cake.

The tab grows by the day.

Validine Veladom stays true to his word. After giving Muriel a large sack of jink he also gives her a chest filled with jewels to cover the cost

Levria has been seen in the back of the inn with Muriel, looking to attempt to learn how to do some baking. After numerous efforts to make something palatable, she finally, with much guidance, comes up with a small, individually-sized cake. With help of Muriel, it is highly decorated with colorful frosting, and sent out anonymously to Verdant Waves.

The cake actually isn't sent out anonymously, and Levria herself delivers it with a note that is in Licca's handwriting. It reads:

Levria saw you earlier today and said that she saw you today and you had such a look to you that she had a strange feeling in her stomach, and she felt so happy, that she decided to bake you a cake. She hopes that you like her too, in such a manner.

She says, by way of explanation, "Licca wrote this for me, but they're my own words. I... hope you like it." And she awkwardly stands about, waiting for Verdant to read it and his response, looking more than a little sheepish.

It had been a whirlwind of emotions for Levria, and she never thought it would go as far as it had. After many a long talk, it was established that she was courting Verdant. It was one of the strangest feelings she had experienced, a flutter in her stomach when he would look at her in that special way of his.

The problem was, he was out of her league. She couldn't form the thought in such words, but she was keenly aware of his better looks, his cleanliness, his intelligence, and the fact that he he was literate, all things Levria was not. But she wanted to make it work so badly, and she was all ears for any advice.

She had been trying to learn to cook to be the best girlfriend she could be, at the recommendation of some of the bar maids at the inn. They also stated she should make a show of the meal, by preparing it sans clothes. They said that would make Verdant happy, so, without understanding exactly why, she did.

Verdant's arrival marked the beginning of a process of unlearning for him. So much he thought was true, was not.

The gods are eternal and immortal? False. His goddess was dead, and another in her place, a great many simply moving on as though nothing had happened.

What realms lie beyond the mortal are for the gods alone, and perhaps their followers gone beyond the Guardian? False. The realms beyond, these...planes, were home to living mortals, and more.

Somehow, research, and relearning abilities old and new gave him some grounding, some understanding of what the world was like again. He had become something of an enchanter, by no means of singular skill but certainly of note amongst many adventurers. The fruits of his research funded the continuation of his research...that was a positive thing, was it not? Life goes on, and all that?

Well, now life had thrown him another surprise. A contradiction to a belief he did not even consciously realize he had: Romance happened to other people.

Levria had ambushed that subconscious belief and disproved it with a cake and a smile. And now he found himself, eyes closed at her insistence, sitting at a table waiting for...something. His ears picked up some rustle...a tablecloth, perhaps? And then something else he couldn't quite identify.

Then Levria told him to open his eyes, and he did so.

Levria's brief "cooking" of the steaks (only charitably called that since to have the meat more rare by any significant amount it would have to be attached to the still-living animal) was complete and the results on the table before Verdant managed to return to coherence. Events like this only happened in the drunken made-up tales told at a tavern to impress other lads, not in actuality!

Perhaps that was another falsehood disproven.

Regardless, what follows is an...admittedly awkward conversation as Verdant attempts to understand why Levria has done this. He'd thought they were going to take things slow. Levria agreed with that sentiment, apparently seeing no contradiction between that and her current state of dress. Well, technically undress.

How did Verdant feel about this...well, this relationship? He certainly had no measuring stick to compare it to. Was he in love with Levria? How was he to know? Was he simply enjoying her affection, and nothing more? Or worse, just enjoying such until someone "better" came along? If so, he should break it off, he had heard of others...used like that, and he would not be a man who would do such a thing. And while she extolled his virtues, he knew he was certainly not perfect. A fact exhibited by the painful clunk of their foreheads he'd caused in an attempt to return a kiss.

But he'd said he'd give it a try. And he wasn't going back on that word...and as Levria suddenly fell asleep, he found himself looking at her...and murmuring, "You are a confusing conundrum...but I guess, you're my confusing conundrum, aren't you?"

And so he carried her to bed, and tucked her in, leaving her to sleep with one last glance back.

Levria was always out and about, constantly looking for strange artifacts and items in different places. It wasn't so much that she wanted to possess them, but, the act of finding them was absolutely thrilling for her. And thus, she was walking the beaches of Carcerei, looking for whatever she could find, when she happened upon her dearest Verdant.

Even bleeding out on the beaches, he was very handsome, his green hair spilled about, mixing with his own blood. The two together gave her a weird feeling she didn't want to examine too carefully, and she dragged him along the beach and into the caves, where, with a little space to work, she put a coin under his tongue to bring him back to the land of the living.

It was desperately concerning to her to see Verdant laying broken on the beach, and she knew she'd have to keep a close eye on him to make sure he didn't hurt himself anywhere else. Eventually, they made it back to the Lady's Ward, where many a long and impassioned phrase was spun.

Finally, Verdant surprised her with a kiss. She wasn't expecting it, and her defenses were lowered. She returned the kiss with interest, and, unable to control herself, saw red. She wasn't even sure what happened after that, except finally she saw Verdant standing in front of her looking very concerned.

Apparently, her old habits were even harder to break than she thought. She had almost eaten her own Verdant, perhaps her favorite person in the whole plane, if not all of them. It was devastating, and she wasn't sure how she could handle it. After dry heaving a few times at the thought of it, she knew she had to leave Verdant until he could come up with a solution.

With tears running down her cheeks, she ran away, and disappeared before his eyes.

Verdant mentally made a note to either up his training, or check his wards. He wasn't ungrateful for Levria's help, far from it...but this was getting downright embarassing. He used to pride himself on being able to survive in the most dangerous of areas. What the hell...well, hells, had happened? Oh, right, the Road of Woe.

Such concerns were for another time though. Levria liked the bow he had found for her, good. Verdant was happy she liked it.

Then the conversation went...wierd. Again. Levria was half-babbling, and in the hopes of derailing the conversation, Verdant gave in to the impulse to kiss her. As far as derailing the train of thought went, it succeeded quite well. Very well.

Too well.

The first clue Verdant had was when he opened his eyes to smile at her...to find her eyes a bit redder than he recalled. He spoke her name, but she didn't respond. She tried to lean in again, her mouth slightly open...what was that with her teeth?

Verdant grabbed her shoulders, calling her name, but to his shock she shoved him back, her eyes now completely red, her maw filled with razor-sharp teeth.

Verdant stumbled back a step or two, but recovered the presence of mind to bark out a few words. A hand materialized and grabbed Levria, containing her now-berserk state, letting Verdant a few moments to recover his bearings and breath.

"Bigby, you diabolical genius," he murmured gratefully under his breath. Looking back at Levria, she had become something else. Red eyes, sharp teeth, raging against the hand's grip.

A spell or two later, to little effect, Verdant was wracking his brain trying to figure out what else he dare try, when Levria managed to come out of it on her own, transitioning from unthinking berserker, to confusion...to horror.

Verdant could understand that. It was unsettling from the outside, how much worse must it be from within? He tried to comfort her, to make her understand he wasn't angry, but she was rather understandably distraught. Thankfully, she shared that some of the magics he tried helped, even if incompletely.

Verdant thought about that after Levria's abrupt departure. It sounded like the mental protection spell assisted but did not break whatever had just happened. That sounded odd at best. It was a near-complete proof against outside mental influence, in theory if something bypassed it, it shouldn't have worked at all.

Wait. Outside mental influence. Frot. It wasn't proof against something that came from within. Still, it helped, so perhaps it had to be retuned? Verdant frowned. His own nature of magic didn't offer that kind of flexibility. Such was the price of sorcery over wizardry, tactical flexibility in exchange for strategic flexibility.

Still, Licca had mentioned some possible alchemical aid before...perhaps his potion brewing skills could offer a solution? Or perhaps his skill in enchantment? Both offered more flexibility than the raw magic he channeled in the heat of moments, ironically why he enjoyed them. In such pursuits he could create something new.

Regardless of what his incomprehensible feelings were for Levria, one thing was clear. She wanted romance, if not with him then she would have to find it elsewhere. But with this hanging over her head...

No. Even if he wasn't her other half, no matter what, Levria would NOT have this hanging over her head.

Verdant always believed in the power, the wonder, of magic. Of its potential to change the world, and he believed it could do so for the better. In that belief he created a blade that could not harm, only heal, and used it to turn the tide of more than a few battles. In that belief, even here he created new wonders, new magics, sought to understand the nature of magic better.

It was time to change the world again. Levria's world would change for the better.

Time to get to work.

Licca runs into Verdant into the bar, and hands him a notebook with her research on Levria so far, and instructions for the portal to the library on Celestia where she did her research.
