Recent Biography

Tera had finally escaped. It had been months on top of months on top of MONTHS since his arrival hereÂ… kept in the cage like some little pet. For Tera that might have been close to a lifetime. He had been prodded and put on display as if in a zoo. How DARE they do that to him! How DARE these roaches treat him like that! He was just a child when he was taken from the clan and tossed into a cage. A child taken from his glen and tossed into the cold walls of city dwellers. He didnÂ’t know where he wasÂ… just some place called SigilÂ… just some faceless city for all he knew. He hadnÂ’t known how to escape captivity. He hadnÂ’t known how to avoid the tradersÂ… but nowÂ… but now he had grown into an adult. He had time to think about his situation and he had acted as soon as he was able.

It took him some time but he managed to pick the lock of his cage. He was small but he was also resourceful. Before this he would have tried to make a break for it when he was fed but the damn magic always held him firm. How incredibly frustrating!

But now he was free and the little witch who held him captive, that rich little harlot who bought him as a curiosity and displayed him as a pet, was left dead in a pool of her own foul blood. She didnÂ’t know what hit her. As soon as she opened the door to his roomÂ… zip-stab, zip-stab, zip-stab, zip-stabÂ… she was done. Even with the small homemade knife, she was overwhelmed. She couldnÂ’t even focus on him long enough to see him strike. He had filled his pockets with some baubles and jewelry, pretty much all he could carry in his little pack, and made a break for the streets. The house guards tried to stop him, to kill him, but they were just too slow. He zigzagged into the streetÂ… simply a blur and finallyÂ… nothing.

He had no idea where he was. He had no idea what he would doÂ… he couldnÂ’t even find a proper gate to the outskirts of this city and the people here seemed too slow to understand him when he asked! He was certainly going to have to re-evaluate his approach and slow it down a bit for the yokels. Having to live in house after house, night after night, right under the nose of this rabble was not going to cut it. He had to make a plan.

It may take him some time to figure this outÂ… to gain from his situationÂ… but he would. Nothing was quick enough to stop Tera.

The quickling had been released into SigilÂ… Time to play.

He skittered along the clothes line that hung between the two housing blocks, balancing perfectly as he ran along the thin rope. His rapid movement, should anyone have been paying attention that night, made it near impossible to focus on him long enough to register there was anything there at all. Most might simply shrug, passing it off as a random shadow in the night.

He reached the far side and ran along the tiny ledge that lined the side of the building. Although the ledge was only mere inches wide, preventing practical use by most humanoids, it was little difficulty for one who was naturally only about 12 inches tall. In the year since being free in Sigil (a large part of an entire lifetime for one of his kind) he had adapted to the city nicely. Obstacles like this were minor inconveniences at best.

He peered into a window, the one he had been aiming for, and noticed three people inside talking. Two were dressed for the streets and one was in house clothes. What was being said was unknownÂ… even Quicklings cannot hear through solid objects. Using his unheard of agility, he scurried up the wall and found a small hole, small enough for a ratÂ… or a Quickling, and squeezed his way into the attic. Once inside it was mere seconds for him to find a suitable perch and listenÂ…

He blended in to the surrounding shadows in the far corner of the ceiling. A mixture of his small stature, his training and his natural ability made it near impossible for them to detect him.

He sat and he listened.

After the trio finished their meeting and went their separate ways, he made his way back out into the night. He momentarily sat at the edge of the roof and waited until the third person, the one in the house clothes who lived here, had climbed into bed. A slight smirk crossed his blurry little face as he leaned inside the little hole and started a small fire in the eave. Chuckling to himself in an insane speed (kind of like a maniacal chipmunk on crack) he scurried down the wall and quickly jammed a shard of metal into the door to jam it closed. Then made his way back into the darkness of the city with blinding speed.

He had been sent to find some specific informationÂ… he had what he needed. Killing the human wasnÂ’t part of his job but they never said he couldnÂ’tÂ… and it was far too much to resist.
