So much has changed, so much remains the same. On one hand I find myself settling in nicely to new accommodations. On the other hand I have found all progress regarding our 'problem' to have met a stalemate for now. I cannot step forwards until something breaks through. Something verily will come to break through. The nature or manner of such is yet to be fathomed.

In regards to other matters. Lyra has temporarily taken refuge in my small and very humble abode. As far as tenets go it should not be of much greater burden. I do however need to accommodate for living within. Something simple will suffice. Mayhaps later I shall discuss with Lyra these matters. In so many regards I have found much more than I could have dreamed in her. I truly plan to make this last the tests of time.

Much progress have I made in other capacities. All then that I need is to perhaps find a suitable endeavor to place my extra time into. It would not hurt at the least.

So then she agreed. Accommodations shall then be made. Small things but essential for this change in how we view one another.

Learned I from her that she is a Black Archer of Shevarash. One whom is so faithful must turn hate to justice. Now know I another side that I had not noted before. How much yet I have to learn as always. How much then shall we teach one another? I have but to ask the proper query. Answers, however obscure, shall yield in time.

The Lai'Oo'ran walked through the rainy haze in the Hive Ward as was his wont when the mood took him. This day was no exception. He felt keenly the costs of his exertions of late. He knew now from experience that such walks were a necessity to maintain his focus. The ever present dangers of walking the Hive beckoned him to venture deeper.

He rounded a couple avenues in the Hive. Mostly maintaining a watchful eye and keen ear to alert him to any that approached too near. The acrid smells that oft-times wafted to his nostrils gave him cause to keep his hood drawn low. A sudden cry of alarm sounded out. The Lai'Oo'ran paused to listen more carefully. Too far to make out words, but it had not particularly come across as such.

He cautiously moved to the corner of a nearby building and peered around. Through the gloom of the darkened alley his attuned eyes lent details readily enough. Garbage lined the ground and ran the extent of it. He noted a couple forms darting off to merge with the shadows beyond the alley.

The Lai'Oo'ran was already partly warded to begin with. However, an extra Stoneskin and a Spiderskin ward would not go awry, he thought. The Lai'Oo'ran then proceeded with caution to investigate.

Why so curious am I? In truth the Lai'Oo'ran did not know the answer to his internal query. At times such urges came over him to investigate things against his better judgment. Usually, they were not only unsafe but moreso unproductive. Unproductive but certainly not without hidden perks. They gave him small challenges to work out now and again.

Light footfalls upon the cobbles were all that sounded to the Lai'Oo'ran's ears as he walked down the alley. His eyes and ears trained to glean whatever they might. Not far from the opposing end of the way, the Lai'Oo'ran noted a hole in the wall of the building. He decided to mask himself with invisibility before entering.

The worn down exterior matched what was evident from the interior. Within lay half-rotted furniture about the room; remnants of garbage, much the same as outside. The room reeked of an ammonia-like smell mixed with various other unpleasant aromas. The Lai'Oo'ran drew up a rarely used face mask of cloth to cover his mouth and nose as he set to investigating the abode. To the side near a large curtain he noted a recently disheveled plank. Upon closer inspection it looked as though someone had caught themselves upon it rather forcefully. "That likely left its mark." The Lai'Oo'ran muttered to himself.

Nothing so far. The Lai'Oo'ran thought to himself. He approached a makeshift stairwell that led down. Before he dared set foot upon the dilapidated wood frame he first knelt to examine it. It seemed secure enough so he tentatively tested his weight upon the first ledge. Slowly the Lai'Oo'ran descended into the dark.

Down here the walls were made of some manner of stone. The dampness was evident as was a stagnant smell about the room. The Lai'Oo'ran could feel a light draft coming from somewhere down here. He pulled his hood back and allowed the draft to brush across his skin and hair. He turned towards the draft and approached.

The Lai'Oo'ran's eyes then fell to an apparent dark hole in the floor. The draft rose from there. After having noted that he turned from the hole. The answer lay not in there. This the Lai'Oo'ran realized innately. There had been an outcry of some manner and in the brief moments before he had rounded the bend and entered the alley. He had secondly noted shadows of fleeing individuals at the opposing end of the alley. This evidence implied the reason for their retreat lay not far from where they had left from this building.

The Lai'Oo'ran scanned the room and found nothing of note. He then carefully ascended once more to the first floor. "Something lacking methinks." The Lai'Oo'ran's voice barely a whisper. His eyes roamed the room. There was a large curtain draped over part of a wall. He approached and parted the curtain.

The smell that assailed his nostrils brought water to his eyes. The Lai'Oo'ran silently cursed himself for not having prepared such a countermeasure. Then he braved it with shallow breaths.

In this chamber was scarcely little at all. A table with a broken leg and a lone chair. To his right there lay a crumpled form of human size and build. The individual was face down. The form of the individual was definitely male. Likely a thug of some sort. No motion whatsoever from this individual.

The Lai'Oo'ran then looked to the other form that lay six paces to his left. The elf approached cautiously. An unloaded crossbow of miniature form lay about a foot and a half from the decidedly elven body.

Body was not entirely accurate as this one was yet alive on closer inspection. The Lai'Oo'ran noted that this individual seemed mortally wounded if not paralyzed by some manner of toxin. He was too inert. He looked closely and noted that the eyes of the individual were open. This individual was a drow.

The Lai'Oo'ran then dismissed his invisibility and thus revealed himself to the drow.

The breathing of this drow was shallow and labored. The drow's eyes widened slightly as the taller Lai'Oo'ran approached."Speak can you?" The elf inquired of the drow. The only answer the drow could manage was a rasping croak that resulted in labored breathing for a moment.

The Lai'Oo'ran then looked over the drow with his expert eyes. Three small piercings by a very fine blade to the drow's right lung. An extremely fine blade he decided at that. This was done with precision. Of other note the hamstrings had been cut as well as the major tendons in the arms. The Lai'Oo'ran's lips curled up faintly as he considered the skill and nature of such an action.

In all likelihood the drow had been dosed with something that utterly disabled him. This would be a very slow death indeed. The fear was evident in the eyes of the doomed drow. Uncertainty of his fate. What would this stranger do next. Indeed the very next words to come would compound that fear.

"You are mortally wounded. You have but hours to live if that." He watched the drow's expression reflect his words. "I give you two choices. Wait for the inevitable or allow it to be granted now." This elicited a croak that the Lai'Oo'ran took for protest at this. "Have then this your way." The Lai'Oo'ran rose and approached the other corpse. He pulled out gloves and put them on his hands before he reached for the corpse and turned it over.

Within the breast of the burly human sprung forth one minuscule bolt that matched to the crossbow laying not far away. "Methinks there was a dispute of sorts. The human with at least two compatriots either confronting you or making some arrangement herein." He turned partly to look to the doomed drow. " Things turned unseemly. Weapons drew. Your crossbow fired." He mimed shooting an invisible crossbow. "The human took a hit directly in the heart. An excellent shot given the circumstances. You had not time to reload before the other two rushed in and beset you." He motioned to the wounds. "They slashed your arms and legs. Their blades were coated in poison no?" The Lai'Oo'ran chuckled somewhat coldly. He knew that the drow could not answer him.

"Knew they then that they had but to deal a finishing stroke. Once, twice, thrice." He mimed the jabs. They then fled the chambers and upon exit one of the two held the misfortune of catching himself upon a partly loose plank of wood. That individual cried out and then realized his folly immediately." He turned about and looked towards the curtain that covered their entry."Then they faded into shadow".

The Lai'Oo'ran then swiftly walked over and pulled the chair up to place beside the drow. He then sat in it and stared at the drow."I trust your final moments of life shall be as insightful as the evidence that has been left about."

True to his word the Lai'Oo'ran remained and watched until finally the drow gasped for his last breath and then fell still. Finally, the Lai'Oo'ran rose and approached both bodies. On a whim he pocketed the miniature drow crossbow and upon searching the drow found five more bolts to match the one in the human's chest. He placed these in his magical bag.

Then he arranged the bodies and closed their eyes before praying softly over them as he had so often done in the past with the recently deceased. His prayers were intended to see the deceased on to whatever rest they would find now. Upon finishing he saw to the disposal of the bodies. No evidence of their existence would he leave.

The Lai'Oo'ran then conjured up several orbs of acid to thoroughly corrode away the bodies. When he ran out of those he resorted to other, similar spells. He pulled out his Staff of Earth and triggered the held charges to coat the chair he had spent time on.

The Lai'Oo'ran then looked over the results of his work. It was sufficient for the Hive Ward. No one would bother to look in any time soon. Not that they would find bodies in here now.

The Lai'Oo'ran then used the staff to part the curtain. He stopped once more by the plank that had been partly dislodged by the exit of one of the two he had caught only passing glimpse of. He then angled his staff upon this and once more triggered the spray of acid breath.

The Lai'Oo'ran turned to look back once more before he once more put reagent to use and concealed himself with invisibility. Upon completing this the elf departed out into the now dimly lit alley. Several hours had passed between his entry and leaving of the dilapidated building. The elf chose to depart by way of the opposite side of the alley from which he had originally entered.

He chose to maintain his illusion until he came to the familiar building with the usual gathering of harlots and their pimps. It appeared a client was negotiating with them at the moment. He slipped by them and opened the door to the retreat that he paid his way for.

The usual mixed occupants made use of the lower floor. He approached the ladder and ascended to the small room that served as his quarters. Upon entry he looked for the other that shared his quarters with him at this time.

He found her upon the small cot in Reverie. He quietly unclasped his cloak and laid it upon the simple chair by the desk. He looked to his notes and then walked over to note the partly completed sketch that Lyra had been working when the mood suited her. His ears twitched a bit and a smile crossed his lips.

The Lai'Oo'ran then turned to his desk and sat down. He entertained the little detour in his mind for some time as he poured over some notes he had taken a few days prior. It was a fascinating detour after-all.

The Lai'Oo'ran surveyed the scene of the battle over the Hive. Already measures were being taken to clean up the debris. The Lai'Oo'ran cared not though about any cleanup effort. He rushed up into the building that he called home.

Up the ladder he made his ascent and over to Lyra whom watched out the small shuttered window with bow near at hand. Her relief at seeing him was as evident to her as his was in return.

Once he had been reassured of her safety and she had been assured of his, she left him to attend what matters he held in the bazaar whilst she saw to her work there in his quarters.

The Lai'Oo'ran descended the stairs at ease once more. He stepped out into the temporary warzone that was rapidly being cleared up and made his way back into the bazaar.

Questions more than answers I am left with. A chance encounter with one individual lent me insight into the recent activities of a potentially rival order of assassins. One that bore likeness to another I know very keenly.

A dagger flanked by serpents was only part of the whole symbol though. A subsect perhaps? I write my own questions as though insight would be lent to that which I have already thoroughly explored.

Inept was the description given to those that attempted to contain the one whom possessed the dagger. That ineptitude is what grants me pause in considering that they are one in the same with the former to which I would seek any new and relevant information regarding.

A pity the bodies were likely as not disposed of. A thorough examination should have yielded the answers I so desire. Sooner or later another chance may yet arise. My hope is that this one will at the least take a time to search for what I spoke of in hushed words.

For now I wait yet again.

Yet another entry in this same flowing Lai'Oo'ran...

It is perhaps not very surprising at all. I had already come to the conclusion that this second group was merely coincidental in resemblance. This group is known as the Sorrowsworn. The individual whom told me was informed in turn by one Factol Darius.

The purpose of named group is twofold. Hired assassins and kidnappers they are. A tool of the wealthy. They are described as almost akin to being pirates. This would explain the ineptitude of the assailants and their brazen nature at the least. Hired hounds oft prove to be so unreliable. Certainly that is all they are. Although truth be told they are likely only of measure in offal that such hounds would leave in their wake.

Yet again, I find that in regards to that matter with which I hold keen interest that nothing is new to report. Mayhaps optimism would be called for save solely for time demonstrating practical realism as the more appropriate measure.

A small measure of satisfaction is tempered by knowledge of the eventuality. The Beast Curse is lifted from Lyra by one whom did such to spit upon the entity that led him down the path he walks.

I know not in what shape or form the Brotherhood's next move shall be. Watchful, ever vigilant shall I be. Knowing ilk such as they from long ago, I suspect that they shall resurface in their own way.

A worthy adversary? Mayhaps. Deliver them to my mistress cold and utterly vanquished I shall if and when they return. This I can and will pledge. As a servant of the Holy Darkness, Divine Scholar of the Arcana, so shall I make my stand. Exact my Mistress' Fury upon those whom would resort to such measures as these foes.

In Her name I act.

Measures, no matter how great nor small can have a lasting impact on one's destiny. So true of late have I observed a change in one whom is very important to me. For another, small steps taken to mitigate that measure of uncertainty.

Finding one to call sister can so aid with finding resolve to take such steps. For dear cousin Danielle I do truly hope that perhaps this honor bestowed upon her will bring her a measure of solace. I do rest assured that solace is given in turn to my Beloved Lyra. So true that much can be taught to one another by their bond as it were.

Equally important for all that was seemingly simple; the meeting at last between my dear friend Isonade with Lyra went very well. True indeed that so much can be learned between the two. I have but to provide a small presence to reassure them that in seeking one another they shall find answers to their desires. All things considered, a business relationship is not a poor start for a relationship.

Time will indeed tell what these small measures will bring forth for all of us.

The Lai'Oo'ran traded robes for breastplate this day. This very bloody day in the Hive. A few prayers he had made in as he donned armor. He fixed sword and rapier to his belt.

Lyra had already left for her hunt. The Lai'Oo'ran knew she would be gone for many hours. He had another intent in mind this day. The Anarchists were at war with the Red Death it seemed. War meant death and lots of it. Today he would do his mistress' work.

He descended to the ground floor of the building that he lived in. He opened the door that led outside and then emerged into the Hive.

The Lai'Oo'ran scanned his surroundings. His ears keened for any sounds of danger. To the distance he could hear screams of one such small skirmish. He traversed that direction.

When at last he arrived he bore witness to just one such massacre of many that he would find that day. The Anarchists and Red Death would bleed and bleed alike. This was one of many that ended in favor of the Red Death. He watched and awaited for the patrol to move on before approaching the corpses to both compose the bodies and say a few prayers of last rites to the deceased.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Later that day following the departure of the drowess, Isonade. The Lai'Oo'ran once more returned to the Hive. He stopped in to check upon Lyra and found her as she was earlier. Saddened by the days harshness. The sounds of a fierce battle however drew them both to the window.

The taller Lai'Oo'ran smirked when he noted that towering behemoth of an orc Vorgazar standing dominant amidst the carnage. He pulled forth an eyelash encased in a small portion of gum arabic and uttered the incantation to cover his form in invisibility.

Once done he looked back to the smaller elf whom gave a wry smirk. He climbed out the window and let himself ease down the uneven ledges provided by the structure. When finally at the ground he readied himself just in case one of the combatants happened to have the means to pierce his illusion and see him. Should they decide to attack the elf was more than willing to oblige them with a few prayer litanies in answer.

However, such need never came to pass the orc was joined by his female counterpart and the two gave a whole new meaning to the term "Hell".

He watched them at their work for a few minutes before he decided to move on. When he finally returned to that part of the Hive his blades were bathed in blood. It had been a long day and now it was time to rest in the company and arms of the elf he had left behind earlier ...

Briefly when it was time to take refuge from the Hive with his love, the Lai'Oo'ran settled down to put some thoughts to paper once more in his journal...

How curious it should come to this. It seems I am destined to find wars. Although methinks this war is not the sort that is fought with columns and armies. This war is much more personal. More a cacophony of battles raging not by merely two sides but many. Those such as I whom are caught in the crossfire will find ourselves resentful to the choice of battlefield. Some mayhaps will find time to reap satisfaction or reward from this.

Even now as I look to her though I know that what we do is moreso an effort to stem the tides in some small way. By slaying those combatants that threaten our homes and lifestyles we in fact make declarations of defense. There cannot be a neutral party for those living within the hive. All here shall be drawn into it whether they wish it or not.

However, perhaps as some of the locals grow more at odds with the chaos that disrupts the normal if shady dealings of this ward, more shall take to such measures to oust both parties and send them from the Hive.

If wish they a war take it to another plane I say. Leave those that wish no part of it out of it. Question do I whether their fanaticism will carry both factions to utter annihilation before this is brought to a bloody close. The fervor would certainly lend one to feel as such at this moment. This is beyond political beliefs though. This is more basal, primal even. Both sides hate the other for differences of principles.

Hope do I that neither side is the victor of this. Hope too do I that this fighting will be thrust from this already torn ward. Until such time as the battles cease so must I continue with those I can trust to aid me. We have our stand to make.

For the clergyman and scholar that I am, I wonder how it could have gone so awry as to send me down this path of war. Mistress Nycti only knows why that would be. In her name I act...

Some time after the Lai'Oo'ran and elf had finished their temporary move and before they unpacked...

How curious it would be if this armistice would last. However, I do hold doubts even as I pen these words from new quarters. Displaced we are indeed. The small room is of much finer quality than our quarters. It will suffice for now.

I can see a slowly building anger in my beloved. That cool rage that leads to a very calculated vengeance. The same I admit lurks within myself. However, I will not bring forth such vengeance until the armistice proves false. When combat resumes then shall I take up blade and spell towards both parties that seek to destroy what little tentative balance the Hive possessed.

For now we wait, a tenuous wait, but one of necessity.
