DESCRIPTION
Grumar was born to a slave to a black and white colored mother as part of a birthing camp. He lived his life, until Sigil, in the same walled pasture, in the same city has never seen his own outside world. This leads makes him terribly naive about pretty much everything.
HISTORY
The Prime Grumar comes from, Brindger, is not like most other primes in the multiverse in that it contains none of the races that proliferate most other primes. Brindger is populated by humanoid animals much like himself. Grumar's owners were the Leo, which, are of race of bipedal lions who enslaved the Taurs a thousand years before.
As a whole, the Taurs have accepted their slavery because they do not know that anything else exists for them. They never leave their walled in compounds which connect directly to the arena so they never see anyone or anything from the outside unless they are fighting and then it's only their Leo masters. All their labor in construction or agriculture is done with in their walls and then shipped out to where it is needed.
Though they have become an integral part in the entertainment and civilization of the Leo society the Taurs are also one of the main food sources for the Leos and those that are unable to work or fight are quickly slaughtered and consumed. This makes an Elder Taur particularly respected as none living have ever known a Taur to die of old age.
The gladiators see themselves as a special select few of the Taurs, as they feel they have to most control over their own fate. A Taur gladiator can choose how long he lives or how quickly he is eaten. No Taur gladiator would ever complain when he is chosen for slaughter and they accept their fate with silence and respect from their peers. The Leos don't really care as the meat is pretty lean compared to their regular beef.
One day, Grumar the particularly average gladiator sat grazing at the far end of the compound when something landed on his head. He had never seen it before which seeing something new hadn't happened to him either. It was a strange object it had a hard cover but unfolded in the middle and contained hundreds of small thin leaves each one filled with symbols he recognized as writing from the signs over the few doors and gates he knew about.
Grumar spent the next year of his life trying to decipher the book. A few Leos had come looking for the book, but Grumar had buried it under a rock where the Taurs created fertilizer. After much work he had deciphered enough of the book to know that it contained a simple story about a person named Vitish who was a Khan and he traveled the world looking for something called treasure. Grumar had no idea what a Khan was but this work was enough to spawn curiosity. He tried to share the story with some others but no one really cared. They began to shun him as he began to try to convince others that there was indeed an outside world.
The ever watchful Leos noticed the curious gladiator and decided he needed to be eaten before anyone else caught on. When they came to take him to the slaughter he decided that he decided that he was going to do something that no gladiator had done, not go willingly. He fought the guards off killing one with his horns, and fled. Fortunately Taurs have an excellent sense of direction which kept him moving away from the pasture and he managed to find a ground level window to escape through on the opposite side.
Grumar spent the next year running and hiding using techniques Vitish had done in the book he read. Food wasn't an issue as he could eat pretty much anything green and he spent his spare time either reading or exercising, but he lived far away from anyone else. After all, Taurs were all Leo property as far as he knew.
Not feeling particularly free yet, he set out to find this thing called a boat, which he would take to a faraway place where hopefully no one would want to eat him.
