Backstory
Mathias served in the Arabel city militia, where he rose to rank of guard captain. His only son was a guardsman under him, and he watched his son get cut down by an orc raider. After that, his marriage fell apart and he was forced to resign from the city watch due to his general foul temper and overuse of force. He turned to freelance work, guarding caravans and whatnot, until a few years later he was able to deal with the pain and pull himself out of the gutter. He went back to work for the militia as a sword instructor, and soon volunteered himself for a particularly dangerous mission, hunting down a lich. The next thing he remembers is waking up in the middle of some bizarre marketplace, which he is convinced is some twisted dream world that he cannot wake from.

After having spent a fair amount of time roaming the planes, Mathias has been convinced that there is a good chance all this stuff might be real. He has started his own little business as a personal bodyguard, and often works probono for the Weary Spirit Infirmary. Having just signed up for the Harmonium, he begins to make plans to enforce a little order on the pile of chaos he's been swimming in.
