Rith had been in Sigil for many months. During this time he had become a lout: Drinking his days away, chasing the skirts of every scandalously clad Tiefling that he could. His employment with Hildmor D'Kridis had ended; the old man was finally sentenced and Rith was left without employment, without purpose, and without justification.
Depression was beginning to sink in as the Jester contemplated his existence. It was then he decided that enough was enough: he wanted to go home.
This was difficult, however. The Aether made it impossible to reach Eberron through the use of portals. Not even a fully equipped Spelljammer could navigate the Aether to reach his home, the spatial and temporal disruptions caused by Eberron's 13 moons made navigation nigh impossible and almost certainly lethal.
Rith had all but given up hope until he realized a dark, foreboding truth. Using the Scrolls of Mnemur over time, he had begun to delve into their secrets. It was at that moment that he realized that Scrolls were pages from a single book. A book that supposedly was used to house a great evil. Rith realized that the pages of the book were magically enhanced with the power of Entropy: The ability to manipulate probability. It was through this use of probability that the pages enhanced their wielders. It made them harder to strike, increased the efficiency of their attacks, they seemed to alter Luck in order to make sure that attacks missed by inches, or attacks always seemed to land in JUST the right place.
Rith theorized that if he were to possess enough such pages that he may very well gain the ability to navigate the Aether. To maneuver a Spelljammer in JUST the right way to compensate for the constantly fluctuating energy patterns of the Aether that make space travel through it so dangerous. If he could alter luck just enough, allow probability to protect him and the Spelljammer he was on then maybe, just maybe, he could find a way home.
It was through this realization however that Rith realized another even more horrible truth. In order to maximize the power of the scrolls, in order to have the greatest chance of manipulating Luck and Probability to insure his safe arrival. In order to be able to foresee the changes in the Aether and better adjust himself, he would need something very powerful. But this power would come with a great cost...
..he was going to need Davoren.
Davoren Hellsheart, by gaining the power of Foresight from the Sensory Stone of Factol Darius the Veyl of the Sign of One, had the ability to see into the future. To see it's paths and streams chasing out into the infinite, to be able to see the most likely event as it was about to unfold and to compensate for it.
Davoren now existed only as a Vestige beyond the realm of time and space, beyond the flux of the Aether. There would be none better who could understand it's random fluctuations. But that would mean Rith would once again have to bind him. To call his essence and merge it with his own, to draw upon Davoren's knowledge, his memories, and his powers. The power of an Arch-Devil.
This was going to be interesting..
A deal with a Devil.
