Story thus far...
Was taken in by pirates at the age of 5 when they attacked the ship her family was on. The captains choice to take her was never shared with her or most of the crew and she was raised as the captains daughter. Despite this, or maybe because of it, she never received any special treatment, if anything he was harder on her than the rest of the crew.

She knows she is Yuan-Ti but does not know anything else about her history or heritage. Whenever she expressed curiosity in the subject the captain would respond with a violent rebuke and tell her to keep her mind on where she is and not where she's been. Eventually she stopped caring and devoted all of her attention to becoming the next dread pirate of her world.

The crew came to respect and love her but she was never able to get either from the captain. This caused her to harbor a deep resentment toward him and only drove her harder to be a stronger captain than he.

Even with this deep passion to out shine the captain she was rarely seen without a "devil-may-care" smile and playful twinkle in her eyes.

During ship-to-ship battle three years ago, the captain was gravely wounded and died before the end of the confrontation. She was not there when he passed away, and though she thought she hated him, she felt guilt that she had never had a chance to win his love and respect.

The crew decided to make her the new captain instead of the captain's first mate. This, of course, did not sit well with the first mate and when Tharissa's depression deepened and she started using Brine (a powerful narcotic) he became even more disrespectful and bordered on mutinous.

As time went on her addiction became worse and minor misjudgements started to become serious blunders. The first mate tried repeatedly to get the crew to turn on her and make him the new captain. And for the first year no one would listen to him and many threatened to throw him overboard for his trouble.

After that, the crew started slowly coming over to his side. It took nearly another year and a half before over half of the crew were against her. Three months after this swing in support, they were locked in a battle with a merchant ship when a major storm seemed to come out of nowhere and a gigantic whirlpool began to form.

The merchant vessel became trapped and Tharissa, blind to the danger, steered the ship into the whirlpool after it (yeah yeah, Pirates of the Carribean...). The first mate took this opportunity to rally his supporters to take over the ship and save all their lives from the certain death of the whirlpool.

Before he could get through the remainder of the crew still loyal to Tharissa the ship became trapped as well. Cursing her name, the first mate swore to make it his last living act to end her life with his blade. His vengeance was never sated as their ship collided with the merchant vessel and they were both thrown into the sea.

A combination of the violent waters and the drugs coursing through her system lead to a confusing rush of images. The last thing she remembers seeing clearly was both ships being ground together and sinking along with both crews. Then there was nothing but darkness.

When she awoke she was laying in a fetid pool nearly full of dead bodies with a splitting headache and vertigo. Her coughing and retching drew the attention of a harlot nearby who eventually grew sick of the noise and thought she'd put Tharissa out of her misery.

As the whore leaned down to slit her throat, Tharissa opened her eyes and instead of seeing the harlot she saw the first mate and instinctively drew her own dagger and buried it in the whore's eye. She then slowly pulled herself from the muck and passed out again.

The next few months of her life are a blur of fever dreams and intense pain. A week ago she woke up in the Gatehouse and found herself trying to convince a Bleaker that she wasn't insane. Eventually she was released and what possessions she had on her when she arrived (the ones that didn't have to be burned) were returned.

Since then she has been suffering from random headaches and nausea, leftovers from her withdrawal. They have begun to manifest less frequently so that she has begun to interact more with the citizens of Sigil and learn more about where she is.

She now spends her time offering her services as a tomb raider. She accompanies adventurers to places where her talents at lock picking and trap disarming can come in handy.

Openly she charges 500 jink up front and 50 per lock/trap (ooc, doesn't charge for the same door/trap more than once) and will not take any treasure from any chests she unlocks, taking only items she finds on any creatures she kills. She's also a fair hand with a blade so she provides some protection for weaker adventurers or those not suited for physical battles.

If she likes the person hiring her she may forgo the initial upfront charge for a promise to pay after the trip or in exchange for useful items that the client has. And if things go well and she gets along with the person who hired her she may decide not to charge them at all afterward. She's in it more for the company than the money.
