The Reasoning and Aim of this project: To provide the kind of stories within the server that could be considered in the spirit of Planescape: Torment's storytelling techniques, impact, and level of plot involvement and emotional investment.
The Core Concept: One character serves as the core shared element in the backstories of multiple others. Other characters must all have had a major event and it's consequences (for good or ill) that defines their current state of being happen due to the action or inaction of the central character in this group. The character central to this idea is the "Core Character", and the others are "Detail Characters"
The Volunteer: Anyone willing to play the central role in this group, from which all of the backstories key moments stem, should post their reply with the words "Core Character Application" at the very top of the post. The Volunteer should have a loose backstory, listing only the core concept behind his history initially (which must be adaptable enough to support at least 6 other characters within it fairly easily). This backstory should be expanded, revised, and completed in terms of details prior to play, with shared input from each other player influencing the general tone and specific details of the story prior to play (And each player having the final say on their character's actions and how they fit within the story before the characters are put in game). The "Core Character", naturally, should have a starting class based on the very core of his concept, and a desired build that attempts to remain useful and effective while taking into account the entire pre-game story once details are finalized with regards to that.
The Actors: any attempt to set up a "Detail Character" should have the label "Detail Character" at the top of the forum reply introducing that character's concept.
"Background" "Detail Characters" should include a simple, expandable, yet interesting story as to where and when they met the "Core Character", and how this affected them prior to the end result of their knowing the "Core Character".
Aftermath: The "Detail Characters" have three automatically accepted types of end results for their pre-game history with the "Core Character". These are Negative, Bittersweet, and Positive. The details of each type of result are to be ironed out between the specific "Detail Character" and the "Core Character".
Goal: Each "Detail Character" will have a goal involving the "Core Character" and his impact upon them. Goals should be a source of internal or external conflict in regards to both the "Core Character" and the specific "Detail Character", hopefully of a dramatic or emotionally involving nature (Resources or wealth should not be the direct meaning of this goal). Good examples of goals are "Vengeance", "Repayment", "Salvation", "Damnation", "Suffering", "Love", etc.
Means: Each "Detail Character" should use a specific code of conduct or set of habits to achieve their goal. This should play off of that character's capabilities on the server, which should be affected by their background with the "Core Character".
Restrictions: You cannot use a pre-existing character, unless you either have not made that character well known or are doing a complete retcon to better fit the character into the framework of this character-centric metaplot. There can only be one "core character" per version of this character group framework, and the person playing the "core character" has the final say on any characters being added to this plot setup after the first six "Detail Characters". As the first person to post this idea in this thread, I am reserving a single "Detail Character" slot for myself (which reduces the number of minimum available slots for "Detail Characters" to five)
Closing Statement: I believe this will be an excellent creative exercise that will lead to some truly epic and setting-inspired RP. It is my hope that we can organize this in a quick and civil manner, and that this idea does not blow up in our faces for one reason or another.
