well i am a little doubtful about xp party system..when soloing it is equally calibrated ,while in party i think it is too easy get xp, especially when party members are higher level.
i'm not sure i'd prefer a different algorithm of xp division ,what do ya think?

That depends on the size of the party, and character builds.

Anyhow, generally, Id' say there is more fun to be had in small parties than in those raiding parties with ½ of the player base. -_-

I enjoyed the system followed in World of Haven on NWN (The world Darkrob maintained).

That system had a base xp for an enemy based on What level he was compared to your character. If there were multiple people in the group, they all got that xp, with a bonus of 1 effective level worth of xp per additional member in the group.

If players were not of the same level, the base XP reward was determined by looking at the Character level of the highest level player in the group. For each level lower a character was from the Level Leader of the group, they received 1 less level of xp for the badguy.

He is a simplified example.

Bob is level 5. Tom is level 4. Jane is level 3.

Tom is soloing against some level 3 orcs. He gets a base of 24 xp per orc.

Nearby, Bob is also soloing orcs, getting 20 xp per orc.

And just entering the area is Jane. She would be getting 28 xp per orc.

They all meet and decide to group up against orcs.

Now per orc, the base xp is determined by Bob, since he is highest level. Base is 20 xp per orc.

Since there are two other members to the group though, the base xp is raised twice, so it goes from 20 per to 28 per. Yay for Bob!

Tom, who is one level lower than bob, gets 24 xp per kill. (Ends up being the same as if he was soloing, but the kills do come quicker!)

Jane is two levels lower than bob, so she only gets 20 xp per kill. Hey, at least she is living longer with these stout fellas helping her out.

I am not sure about the exact xp value per level and per additional member of the group, maybe Darkrob can cast some light on it. I think this system worked out great. Low level characters who were being babysat by higher level characters got alot less xp, so powerleveling was difficult to do. High level characters could get a decent xp bonus, so long as they were good babysitters and kept the lower level characters alive.

Also, there was a suggestion on the server that there really should not be characters groupped up whose level difference is greater than 10. This could be better enforced by allowing diminishing returns for group size, and eventually penalties. Ie. 2 people is +4 xp, 3 people is +8 xp, but 4 is only +11 xp, 5 is +13 xp, 6 is +14 xp, then 7 people is a group is only +13 xp, 8 is +11, 9 is only +8, and 10 is +4, and any group bigger than 10 people provided no xp bonus. (Just being able to share xp is a reward enough of its own... your character is really not getting enough participation to earn extra xp).

Also, another server I tried had a 2 xp for doing the killing blow, a +1 xp reward if you managed to hurt the enemy during the fight, and no reward if you did not successfully damage the enemy at any point. This makes it even more difficult for high Leveled meta gamers to power level their newb friends.

Also, I think xp rewards in general are a bit generous on the server. Most PW servers award about half the xp this server does, which means characters take longer to level. From an RP perspective, this gives your character more time to RP before he is EPIC, and that is always a good thing.

Our experience system works as intended currently, it inspires players to group up and makes experience enough plentiful to lessen the need for grinding. I have seen experiences in other servers range wildly from nothing to mediocre, to too high. There is no way to please everyone as everyone has different perspectives and preferences.

For those whom deems that experience is too low, we suggest that you look for groups and roleplay more, since they both indeed do increase your experience gain greatly.

For those whom deems that experience is too plentiful, I might suggest that you slow down your own hunting patterns to seek for more roleplaying matters, creating a plot, getting involved with existing plots rather than aim for experience all the time.

For those whom deems it's just fine, well... you're doing it right ;P
