Maybe I am one of the few players who want to use the forum as less as possible for ic play. I think using ic info should be provided and used ic as much as possible. A solution in my opinion is using ic bulletin boards. It worked perfectly on the server I played before I came to SCOD. I am certain it will work here as well.

If something on a bulletin board is interesting players can ask around and investigate things or leave it if they are not interested. If you dont come across the right people IC you miss events that are going on, even if you do not participate, if you missed the forumpost here. I think it is good to know what major things are going on even if you cannot or will not participate in an event.
(Ofcourse some events will remain a secret because it is the nature of that event)

I hope bulletin boards will be placed ingame for ic messages. Maybe one bulletin board at bazaar for Dm events only, and one for players, or whatever is msot useful. When the factions are finished, I can imagine bulletin boards for faction members come in handy too. If further explanation of the message is needed and DMs do not have time to explain, then in that case direct to forum, for example with an f to save space for the message.

I think he's talking about this thing here: DMFI Bulletin Board.

Not a fan of it myself, since the forums work just fine.

I played in Midgard before. (Midgard didnt use the board from the link by the way or altered it to keep it more simple).

Apparently something as simple as a bulletin board is not as easy therefore I try to explain it more. I mean something just like those buyable empty parchments, except this board does not get lost when the server resets.

I like the forum as well, but this is actually a pretty good idea.

I have no idea how difficult it would be to implement. The reviewers all seem to have found it to be visually glitchy in the toolset.

That is interesting, I like it. If it isn't to much of a hassle then I could see this being used alot.

I've seen BBS used before. I would certainly recommend having a board for DMs and Admins to post important server announcements and events.

Player boards, I hesitate, because I've seen these be abused by players trolling servers, but many systems allow admins to set filters on the boards. My only other caveat is that only a few messages can be stored on the board at any one time. So for players posting messages announcing far future events, I still strongly suggest using the forums.

The following is more for developers' benefit.

Mods to check out:

Oleader's (this system has a lot of wonderful features--I'll be looking into the persistent time clock on this too. After all, there's no sense in trying to reinvent the wheel. Though built for NWN1, so it looks like I'm going to have to whip out my CDs...):

i like the idea of having a Board in town.. or Even a notice board in the ooc room.. The one in town would Be usefull for Traders and people looking to Sell goods.. Aswell as announcing Faciton meetings.. plays.. and the such.. as not everyone wishes to hop online and look at the board and such.. when people mention it in game
