I've got a question for the Admins and players...
What can characters aspire to in this mod?
Players cannot lead factions... matter of fact there is so little faction interaction... I can only remember about 3 of them.
Players cannot challenge the authority of the city... ever.
Players cannot aspire to positions of power without the factions smacking them down.
There are no opportunities for players to do anything but RP personal relationships, amass gear and trade it amongst eachother.
At what point do players get the chance to not only create a story (that reaches beyone their own person) and lead the story to fruition?
I've had great difficulty making long term goals for any of my characters. Anything with vision is not permitted. DM's rarely (if ever) are permitted to toy with the core rules of the mod. The Cabal is law and unbending. Advancement is stagnant. We simply have a mod to create neat builds, using neat races, and hunt... nothing more.
I'm not trying to be combattive or a dick... I just need to know what people can shoot for. Standing in the market, listening to the same dialog over and over between abyss runs, is hardly visionary...
Input?
Aspire To?

IMO it would help if storylines or any plots involved the community as a whole rather than a select few, something i have noticed.

My characters goals:
Marius Darktale:
- Take Over Sigil.
- Destroy Lady of Pain.
- Learn more about arcane, always more.
Cratten Erroc:
- Destroy Factions, restart the Cage all a new.
Xaositect:
- ... uh... goal? Spread chaos.
My next character is going to be a survivor of a dead plane. Kinda like coming outta post apocalyptic setting where cannibalism is all fine and dandy, to Cage. His greatest intrigue will be to try to learn to live in society once more.
Marius and Cratten will never succeed. I don't care, it's the road that is more interesting... I can get players and others to try to achieve something, eventually they will fail and die. That is their sole purpose... they might achieve short term victories, such as against Kelth and Naya'il Marius put some nice story going on.
Considering how many times criminals have slipped from Harmonium/Mercykillers/Guvners... :P so I wouldn't say one can't challenge the authority of the city.
Goal is something one aims at, achieving it is whole another point. What does one character want? Immortality? Power? Slaves? Powerful relations? Good of all life and stuff? Once you have a goal set up, try to achieve it. Assume that once you achieve it, it's game over anyway... I mean, what'd the character do after losing their goal anyway?

What I'm saying is end goal, no matter how grandoise, is unattainable. Yeah... I understand the road is better than the destination... but it's like walking a treadmill... it gets stale. You make plans that will ulimately fail. You set goals that ultimately end up in failure as well. Imagination stops as you really have zero chance of actually succeeding. The players, for the most part, will change nothing in the mod. It's all wishful thinking... but the end result is the same.
I'd like to see players actually have an impact on the mod and I'd like to see staff actually permit that (if well thought out and played). Structure and rules are fine but when they become inflexible they become chains... and chains aren't too comfy..
Standing around talking about friendships, planning against other players for things that will change nothing... there has to be more than that. A mod that resists change... resists creativity that allows deviation of the core design... becomes stagnant... and that's never a good thing.

It hasn't really been said anywhere save by yourself that players can't change anything ;P

You are permitted to plan to as far as you want. Results depends on how plans are initiated.

Properly planned...
would a player be permitted to lead a faction?
Destroy established factions?
Lead NPC guilds or sects?
Become something more than a simple adventurer that means something? Gain a measure of power that was not player character (other players) supported? NPC/Staff supported?

I have been playing a while and am interested in getting involved in plots and such and I think i have maybe randomly stumbled onto 3 DM events / plots (4 with the drinking contest today)Cenpuppie,Aug 13 2010 wrote: IMO it would help if storylines or any plots involved the community as a whole rather than a select few, something i have noticed.
So I would have to agree that maybe a bit more outreach would help some of us feel a little less out in the dark

Unlikely permanently. Since your character is not WotC material :P Temporarily, possibly.
Unlikely since all factions serve a purpose. Your plot unlikely does. Temporarily disable faction? Possible.
If related to storyline, possibly.
Already happening here and there.
