Questions About Rping

Hello all,

So I found out about this module recently. I've been wanting to play as a monstrous creature in NWN2 with all the proper abilities and such for some time now (Specifically the Hezrou). So I'm interested in joining the servers.

That being said, I read the new player guide, and noticed RPing is required. I have no experience RPing so I'm a little worried I'd get ostracized or banned on the server from my lack of experience. Not to mention I'm not entirely sure how to RP a Hezrou since if I join I'd like to play as a Hezrou. I have a few questions.

1. Is Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic good viable for me as far as being a Hezrou goes? I read that they are usually chaotic evil but I was hoping to be a more kindly aligned one.

2. How should I generally talk as far as playing one in the server goes? Could I try to sound otherworldly but still nice to a degree?

Thanks!

Outsiders (Which a Herzou is) in our module can be up to one step away from their "natural" alignment. In this case, Chaotic Evil. This means that Chaotic Neutral is okay, but Chaotic Good is not.

As for RPing, we're a lot less strict then most other servers when it comes to that, and I've never heard of anyone banned for it. Everyone has to learn after all.

Basically it's simple : You shouldn't ignore RP (If someone RPs blocking your way, for example, you can't just ignore them and move along) but you don't have to be social or anything. If you want to just go around and kill stuff, you can just go around and kill stuff and when someone wants to talk to you you are perfectly allowed to have your character go *Grunts and moves along, ignoring you* (You should always emote when ignoring someone, it's good form to show that you're not ignoring the player but rather the character). We don't have an RP police that tells you you're RPing wrong (Unless you're god-modding or metagaming). If you're looking to learn how to RP more, then the best way is to practice :D Most people will be glad to help if you send them a tell asking for advice or such.

Ah, I see.

That's good to hear, I appreciate the advice. I'll try this game out this weekend. I think playing as a Hezrou will be fun! :D

If you ever need any help or unsure, don't be afraid to reach out to people and send a tell. While we might not always get along, one thing I do know is the majority of players here are great people who will go out of their way to help folks.

Oh... and Welcome to the server!

I really would suggest not starting with a high-ECL race, as it can be frustrating when you don't know the peculiarities of the server. This is made even moreso when there are characters who will not willingly interact with an actual demon, even if he isn't a full-on CE rage machine.

Seriously, make your first character a human or an elf or a halfling, and play them for a week. Find out strategies for grinding, where to go at what level, how to earn gold and XP without endless grinding, and preparing yourself for the different challenges the server offers. Gain five or ten levels, try out some of the custom systems (particularly ones that your Hezrou might eventually use). THEN make that high-ECL dream character, and if you're lucky maybe you've made some new friends who'd want to create new characters at the same time so you can level as a group.

Oh, and since nobody answered your second question... however you want to! Take a look at people's Inspect window (right-click on them to bring this up). You'll find people with echoing voices, who sound like two people talking at once, who have a reverbrating growl, and so on. And make a fun inspect for other people to see as well, so you're less "there's a Demon in the bazaar" and more "this looks like a very interesting Demon"!

My apologies, I didnt realize it was recommended for newcomers to not play a high ECL race. (Sorry, I already started trying the high ECL race yesterday!)

I have a few more quick questions if thats okay.

My heart's pretty much set on playing something monstrous, so what would be considered as "high ECL" and what would be considered more normal? I saw there are some ECL 4-6 races that I also have an interest in possibly trying out in addition to my character Ive been playing, (I dont want to play as any races like elves/humans/orcs/ gnolls etc.) Is that more beginner friendly? Also I am okay with facing the challenges of a high ECL race too :)

Also my gf wants to join too, she wants to play as a myconid and venture with me. (You guys did a really good job with this module, I am thinking of donating to help keep it up, and seeing if anyone I know is also interested in joining!)

Thanks again!

some the difficutlies of high ecl races are not readily appearent. One biggest traps for the moment if you choose to be a spellcaster. Its not impossible but it makes things more difficult.

Between 4- 6 that least grants you a few epic feats to play with.

Iv seen Herzeous do really well mechanicly but never seen one stick around as a pc for more then a few weeks before moving on.

Winter Wolves, Lycans, Khasthas , Minotaurs are all moderate ecl races with monstrous listings

My suggestion for easier start is to stick to races with up to +6 level adjustment and which ideally have damage reduction attached. That'll get you through some of the bumpy starting.

Now the challenge of high level adjustment races is that you're going to be under equipped to deal against the creatures you should be fighting. How it works is that your level + the level adjustment equals to the challenge rating you should be fighting against. But if you're just starting out, not all of the initial racial abilities are enough to compensate the lack of proper equipments you'd need to fight against them.

Of course the way around this is to take it a bit slower initially and understand that the ride might be a bit bumpier early on and try to collect gold to get some equipment to be able to match the level challenge.

On the bright side you don't immediatelly start with the maximum level adjustment of the said race, if I remember correctly, Agony Aunt made it so that it'd gradually increase as you level, so initial couple levels should still be easy enough in the starting areas, but enemies will be starting to give exponentally less experience in comparison to lower level adjustment races until you're at the top LA again.

Maybe play a Khaasta with her Myconid? Both are ECL +2 so you will always level together if you keep the same pace, and the Khaasta is pretty strong, also monstruous. They are just not so unique, as a race, not as characters, obviously. What I mean is that there are quite a number of Khaasta being played, they are a very powerful race for the +2 ECL IMHO.

Myconid monks are very very good, if your GF wants to have an easy time it's a very recommendable combination (Plus, a mushroom punching things to death is pretty cool).

As for your race, as mentioned above Khaasta is a pretty good choice, especially since you'll have the same LA as your GF's character. Otherwise if you want to go higher LA, something with lots of STR and DR/regen is what you want to aim for.
