I'm not a native english speaker so I'm not sure I perfectly understood the post.

Are we going to make a jump in the time after the faction war and we won't have any influence on it to fit to the official D&D lore or are we going to jump at the start of the faction war and play it?
(I think it's the first but I want to be sure)

Also if all the factions are disbanded/exiled of Sigil who is going to rule Sigil? no guard? no judge? no justice? no government? Is it going to become a lawless city?

Just at a glance, it seems rather silly to essentially say:

"In the interests of preventing people from feeling like they don't have an impact on the direction of the plot, lets not give them direction over the plot, but let them pitch in once everything of import has already happened."

That is essentially what is happening by skipping over the Faction War entirely and taking its canon results as a foregone conclusion.

I know from a DM's standpoint it would be more complicated, but I think it would make for a vastly more satisfying experience for all involved to chuck canon entirely on the FW ('cause the results are pretty stupid by and large) and actually let player actions decide the course of the war in a potentially new direction.

Maybe the Harmonium absorbs the two mercykiller subfactions and emerges as a new entity, or the Doomguard and Athar team up in the name of bringing entropy to the gods and drive large chunks of the Triad from the Cage. Or maybe the Anarchs finally rise up and pull off a French Revolution style take-over with the Indeps, complete with Terror courts.

Hell, maybe the Sects get in on the game, and the Order of the Planes Militant steps in to replace the defeated/shaken Triad forces as the arbiter of brutally anti-fiend order...or the Merkhants pool resources and plot to straight-up buy the Cage.

tl:dr version: Don't skip the war, let folks get in on the chaos and give DMs the freedom to actually shape new results. Rather than dumping folks faction RP down the drain, this could give them a chance to finally put into operation plots years in the making with earth-shaking results, and give real consequences to player RP. Want to assassinate a Factol? Doable now! Want to make your mark by leading a battle against your rival faction? Doable now with lasting consequences!

PvP can be dramatic and tense (even if its just PvP in the plotting sense, without any actual direct combat between players), but it keeps things from getting too stale and rigid, which seems to be the underlying point behind this shake-up.

It means the server will skip past the pre-determinated events to the end results of the Faction Wars. Because few players would really enjoy playing a war they know they're going to lose.

Factions get reformed all together in the Faction Wars sourcebook, some factions are completely dismantled, others combine to new factions, and some just remain as they are. The big change however is the position of the factions, they no longer will have political leverage since the war more or less ends to the result where her serenity the Lady of Pain gives an ultimatum for the factions "Dismantle or die". I'm paraphrasing since I can't remember exact wording, it has been a while since I've read into it, so clearly now I may need to refresh my memory.

It won't be completely "lawless" there are those that will still pursuit justice, but it's going to be in smaller scales.

I just have some logistical suggestions.

1. Pick a day (likely with an update) to push the fast forward. This is to allow every player to come up with some filler story for what their character did during the faction war, and allow ongoing plots to do the same (think the fey one is the only concern here)

2. Put up a big plaque in the OOC room right in front of login to inform everyone. Have it say something like "the server has fast forwarded, the following events have transpired... if your character has established RP, take a minute to formulate what your player has been doing (a type of background) during the faction war and leading into its aftermath ... and enter portal..."

3. Rework the faction system appropriately. Narrow the choices (better for a small server), and consider reworking the rank to 'maximize player opportunities for contribution' while maintaining only the 'necessary DM lore oversight.'

4. Hopefully plan on including the new IC bases in the future (arcadia, mechanus, ysgard, carceri warrens, inner plane citadel, etc...(think i missed 1)). In the short run maybe rework some existing areas to serve.

I think this can be a cool thing. Just don't dump the changes all of a sudden. I'd say screw the source books and let player actions determine the outcome, that's just my opinion.

Ya know, considering that it is April 1st, I am dearly hoping that this is an elaborate April Fools joke by cryptic.
