Legacey Races

First off I am not trying too start a war here. These are just my thoughts so please refrain from getting nasty.

I understand alot of the races are being redone with great effort from the builder and scripter and tester team. My question is if this being done for server balance like in the case of the vampire not being a an uber caster like the lich. Doesn't this just create a more of power issue since alot of the new race's with prcs are limted to certain class aliment's etc. You ave new players using the new races and people who have been here using the leagecy race. The new racesa re no longer near the power level of legeacy class's even with the prc's. You can have any class aliment etc. And there is no need to rebuild into the new race since you delevel too one and keep the race. I just do not understand the point of redoing everything only too allow the same races you fixed too still be played in there high ecl version. My last point is compare vampire legeacy too vampire now. Even with more prc option it is still a sun standard compared to legeacy wich vetran players get keep. It just creates a power vacumm between new players and vet;s with vaults full legeacey races

It really comes down to two things, DK (hey, I like my lists).

1. The primary purpose of this wasn't to "tone down" things, it was to create more options and try to balance things going forward. So while Vampire and Khaasta were overpowered under the old system, others like Giants and Lizardfolk were actually underpowered by having unfairly high LAs. In the meanwhile, allowing greater freedom of builds leads to a more open approach to character development; vampires and liches aren't all human-based, more of the outsiders can wear custom clothing, and players more concerned with RPing their race than the power it grants are free to forgo some or all of the race's powers by not taking racial PrC levels.

2. A good way to alienate players is to tell them that characters they have spent months or years with can't be played anymore. And the biggest advantages of those old races came during the leveling process, so almost all of those legacy characters are already L30. Since we're not a PvP server, there's no real advantage at this point, aside from the the ability to brag about a silly-high ability score. And really, I'd expect the majority of those characters to eventually either wind up rebuilt to take advantage of lower LAs, or to go relatively unplayed as their players explore some of the new races with new characters.

1. You make a very pretty lists

2. I understand your point it makes of sense. My whole thing I have seen right before a new race comes out an influx of that race a week or a few day before they are redone.

3. As example, the previous Succubi Race had ECL+8, which made it very difficult to level up, at certain levels almost impossible to pierce enemy SR, getting dispelled everytime and no BAB to be anything other then a cha caster. Or take a look at the current Iron Golem. They hit like a rock, but get two attacks lesser then other races. Their starting stats are that strong that they dont even get Magic Immunity. Tieing abilities to levels is so much easier to balance over 27 levels.

Actually I'm fairly sure the new versions are more powerful than earlier. :P They also get a more sophisticated and functional tools. I'm somewhat doubtful of people wanting to stick to the old versions personally. But they can if they want to.

Like Cere said, most Legacy Vamps are Max level. It would be unfortunate to have to rebuild them and I'm sure (me included as Daniela is Max level) some might not even bother. Dani's Sister is a Mage. Under the new system she'd make a far inferior mage and would likely be abandoned.

I said inferior mage. The new Vamps are not supposed to be Mage centered, that is the realm of Liches. The character in question, however, was designed 'story wise' to be a mage. Removing that character removes the original story that has already been created.

I'm seeing enough many vampires to doubt that a lot. Just because it's humanoid and capable of getting appealing appearance as well as people having a general liking to vampire lore (others than me anyway). Naturally anyone desiring the most optimal stats will always find a better race/class combination to go with.

Besides even previously vampire mages were inferior, so that's not particularly changed. Infact all previous races were inferior casters.

The new vamps make awesome Rogue/assassin builds as they continue to get sneak attack during their Vamp levels on top of their Vamp abilities.
