A player decided to respond to my inquiries and flabbergasted responses about the price of a pair of +4 AC boots by saying I was a prick right out of the gate.
I flew into a rage, and responded with hostility, and instead of telling me to calm down or trying to help me do that, they immediately decided I was harassing them, and likely attempted to capitalize on my angry outburst by reporting my words (though perhaps not theirs) to one of the server admins or moderators.
I have no doubt I will be permanently banned for daring to respond to that insult. The amount of hostility I returned was a bit more than what they gave, and was, yes, a fair bit more persistent.
This is the kind of situation I dread. Where another player can game the rules of the server to make sure I never am able to use it again, I panic.
I'm in a panic right now, so I'll be perfectly frank here.
I still think that, after that insult and the unwillingness of the player to see fault in their words, that they deserve far worse words than the ones I used.
Yes, I know that what I did was probably against the rules, but do we really need players who will insult other players OOCly, bait them into an angry response, then use their reactions to ensure that the person they targeted is banned?
No, we do not. But we all know what's going to happen. I'll be banned, and the other player will receive a slap on the wrist... despite the fact I'm unsure if I've been warned even once about this or any other offense.
That's just how people react, really. Baiting someone into anger for cheap laughs is as much a part of the human experience as being prejudiced, or seeking retaliation for something, or just plain hurting other human beings. That is to say, it's the majority of what it is to be human.
So, when I inevitably receive a first-offense permanent ban for this, I'll hopefully be able to move on with my life, as doubtful as I am of that right now (Due to social isolation IRL).
I Will Probably Not Be Here Much Longer
