I'm Out

Knowing the crack this game is and how few things are available god knows I'll be back around in three to eight months or whatever, but for now I'm getting fed up with things and yes this is going to be a post about everything wrong with the server so abandon all hope, ye who enter here.
Balance, the grind, the economy, all is whack. But I've yelled about this in two other threads now so I'm sure you can just read my post history to see everything I find wrong with the systems. To put it succinctly it's absurd that Sigil goes from a fast, easy, rewarding grind to Asian MMO levels in a week.
Faction balance is whack. Might as well call this Sigil City of Sensates and Mercykillers. Because that's all I see. This has various domino effects, none of which are pleasant save for members of those factions. Newer players see these factions being the most active/populous ones and so are more inclined to roll them themselves or have their Clueless or whatever join on up. These factions are (Ostensibly at least) easier to RP/DM for too I imagine, and so they get a greater brunt of attention, again due to the player count in them. And even when things aren't specifically tailored to a faction, the player count within them means that when something happens a factioneer of one of these things is very likely to be involved, which can well rope the rest of the faction in. It just spirals in ridiculous ways.
Not to mention other factions feel toothless. I've toyed with being Harmonium, Athar, Anarch, and one or two others but here those factions have no teeth at all. "Stop, criminal scum! Or don't. If you don't want to. I can't actually attack you." No PvP does help smooth over bad feels and tensions, but it also means that everyone's wearing kid gloves in IC interactions. And this is baaaad for factions whose main things are 'we hit things'. Instead of that we have Bad Philosophy Hour from these factions and nothing else. We've all seen the multiple Athar PCs that do nothign other than stand in the bazaar and rant about atheism because what else can they do? They can't really run around threatening PC clergy or whatever. It just makes these factions a chore to play at best and actively boring/toothless at worst.
Sigil's at this weird conflux of wanting to be three things at once. It wants to be an action server. The easy to a point, repeatable, reasonably high gear (Excluding the absurd special store) all point to that. The fact that if you know how to abuse the systems in the right way and don't do anything else you can hit 29 or 30 in a few days speaks to that too. It wants to be a social server. You have female nudes and multiple races whose entire RP can be summed up as 'really likes sex'. I see a lot of crossover players between here and Haven. This speaks to the low conflict/PvP end of things too. It wants to be an RP server. That's what it advertises as so I won't elaborate there. But in trying to be all three things at once it kind of fails at all three. Which is a damn shame, as there are neat custom systems here and I love Planescape as a setting. The server just represents it so very, very poorly.
So there you have it for now. See you later. Maybe. Who knows with this game.
