Just bought this game, it's amazing, fairly simple RPG but so far great story, simple but smooth combat system.

Same. Or is it just a basic hack 'n' slash with a story?

According to one of the user reviews (negative):
wrote:This game has basically 3 stats. you raise strength to be a fighter, dex. to be a bowman and int. to be a mage. There are no learnable skills, there's nothing to your character at all really except for 5 equipment slots.
Yeah they're excusing it away with a "but our items are character customization", but it doesn't hold water.

It's not really a hacknslash at all, it has interesting story and places some emphasis on strategy in certain fights, and choosing your gear can be important as the right ability will make a difference. It seems simple but the right combination of abilities can make a big difference.

There have been several points where I thought the combat was pretty sparse because I was exploring, or dealing with the story for awhile.

EDIT: Also you sometimes come across monsters that are way above your paygrade, forcing you to go back and get better gear and do more quests, killing monsters offers generally little XP or reward, because most fights can drain your resources pretty heavily, and without an XP bonus the XP gain isn't all that impressive

You get the most XP by completing quests, killing monsters mostly just gives you loot.

I wouldn't say it's the next new "revolutionary" game but for a 10 dollar game now 15% off on steam, it's well worth the cost.

Speaking of revolutionary games does anyone know how Sword Coast Legends or No Man Sky went?

I'm sort of looking forward to Tyranny personally, but I don't really play games much unless it's 3DS games. Ember looks okay for that price point but I think I would have a hard time getting invested in it.

Oh well, shame about Sword Coast, expected with No Man Sky I suppose.

3DS is nice and relaxing. You can play Bravely Second, Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer, Monster Hunter Generations, Hyrule Warriors with girl link, Sm4sh, Fashion Forward, Harvest Moon, Phoenix Wright, some retro games and indie games. =)

Not sure I'll like Numenera, I might try it after some reviews and because of Monty Cook.

Both awful & underwhelming, especially pissed about SCL. D&D, my ass! They didn't follow any of the 5th edition rules at all. It was just a bad RPG.

Tyranny should be cool.

If you played Planescape: Torment and liked it, you'll like Torment: Numenara. But it feels like an old school RPG. I'm in the public beta.

Anyway, I may skip Ember. Sorry, dudes.

The main issue with Sword Coast Legends, was that it had a D&D tag (though, that really wasn't the issue. People's expectations were the issue). Hence, all the people who had differing expectations from the reality of the situation were disappointing. Had it been released with a different name, it would have been welcomed with open arms.

It was a pretty fun game, it just wasn't the D&D game people were expecting. From what I understand, a lot of people were expecting something akin to nwn2/nwn1/kotor (an RPG, not a dungeon crawler), or some such. It is a really fun dungeon crawler, people were just hyped up for something else. Expectation vs Reality issues.
