Face it berks, metagaming is rude, offensive and against the server rules.
Lately I get the impression precious few people bother to read them at all to be honest.
If your character does not know my characters real name, then don't use it. Your character isn't supposed to know it IC because it's part of the game engine / mechanics. Otherwise all my new characters will bear the name XXX or human female # 23, no kidding.
Same goes for story elements. Just because you as a player learned of them OOC in some manner it does not mean your character did so IC, so leave it at that.
Next metagamer I'll screenshot and report in, no punches pulled.

Cheers,

Just so you know naming your character as you stated above is also against server rules but agree with you if someone doesnt tell you their name then dont use it' and if you cant remember an ooc tell of do I know your name or what did you say to call you is all it takes.

While I agree with not metagaming names, please keep things sane... people make mistakes... just send them a tell and explain why what they are doing is metagaming... don't need to blow things out of proportions

No one argued the fact people make mistakes, cryptc.
We're talking about people who metagame you with the full knowledge of what they are doing and give you a snide remark when you try to explain the situation to them via a friendly tell. ;)
No one is blowing things out of proportion here.

Being one of the many people who doesn't give out their character's full names, I can usually tell when someone is meta-ing my character's name when they call him anything other than Bael.

A polite tell always clears that up, though. I've yet to recieve any snide remarks in reply.

That being said, sometimes you meet so many people that you tend to forget exactly who among them were properly introduced or had their names directly referenced in conversation.

A little while ago, on another server, Aggribael's name was Neziribael. I made the switch shortly after someone abbreviated his name as 'Nazi'.

In doubt, just go with "Uum.. what was your name again?" :P or just keep calling them a "Basher / Cutter / Blood / Berk / Sod"

And just face the fact, there isn't even a real need to use the words: Basher / Cutter / Blood / Berk / Sod...
After all, you can point with your finger. Though some berks might try to 'box' the finger.
