There has been a lot of negativity around lately, and yeah, you're right. Things could be better, but they could also be a lot worse. I personally think that we have a good community, and it is worth reminding, otherwise we might end up becoming ever more divisive. Do we have our differences? Absolutely. It's actually a part of a healthy community to have some opposition to bounce ideas off of. I mean I've definitely taken part of, or even started, some highly unpopular motions lately, for good or ill.
I still log in almost daily and do find myself regularly entertained with both new and old players alike, it does require sometimes a little effort, but it also tends to be worth that effort. There will absolutely always be far more demand of new plots, content, and fixes, far more than there will be a supply for them. That has never changed either, and probably never will, needless to say while some of these things may not happen at a pace which is found agreeable, they aren't being ignored either, but it also bears reminding that the same people who are actually doing these aren't doing this for a work. They usually actually already have a job, and this is just extra they do, either because it's nice to be part of a project larger than themselves, express themselves, practice their talents or good ol' general desire to help out.
Quality of things is always an ever living phase of trial and error, and sometimes subjective, but it doesn't help to mock when you feel things are subpar, even if they are. I understand how it is very easy and tempting place to start, but it seldom is part of a solution. Defining the core problem and trying to find a fix for it is far more efficient, since it's not really about "what sucks" it's about "how would you ideally see it?" and you'll probably start seeing a little less issues.
I'm sure there are a great many ideas still unspoken in there still to keep things going, so let us not allow all of the silly politics, both server and not, to prevent us from working toward the mutual ends. That is, roleplaying for fun in a planescape server. And I think to that end, working to inspire and generally communicate the kind of behavior you want, works the best. Guides that help to understand what it means to ____, latching on plot hooks that could be engaging, or just something to help to motivate and support people who are doing a good job.
2017 is going to be a good year in the City of Doors. There's quite a few neat little things in store, so please don't lose faith. SCoD, like everywhere, has it's problems and people's perceptions come a lot into play with how things are seen and viewed. But, we do have a hard working team of volunteers who have blessed us with not only amazing content, but their time and energy. Admins, DMs, EMs, Devs, Builders, Scripters, and the players - all of whom have made our server the success it is. I, for one, am going to do everything I can to make the next year one of positivity and enjoyment, and I look forward to sharing that with each and every one of you.
Suggestion : Ban all political discussions in general like we did in a lot of communities 10 years ago and let's keep politics out of our video games eh ? :P
