What if my definition of use magic device in this case is being taught the correct stances to use these boots without being an actual martial artist? Is that bad roleplay?

Look mate, there's no real problem here. Why can't we simply let people play the way they want, and not a be a d*ck about it? It sounds crazy, I know.

Just people need to stop stop crying about themselves not being powerbuilders, when they actually are. As I said, I am not judging powerbuilders.

The vast majority of these 'crying about themselves not being powerbuilders' sayings come from the fact that not everyone is playing bonkers builds with 70 AC/50 saves/60 AB and they don't want the server's general direction to cater to those type of characters alone.

Which thankfully isn't the case, and those 'cries' simply make sure it stays that way. :beatdeadhorse:

Where is your roleplay now, hm?

I should create another thread for "acrobats" with Tumble skill 10.
Sounds pretty judgemental to me, chief.

Technically a "powerbuild" must have something that makes it 'overpowering' in some way by comparing it to an 'average' build. Just a thought, but my stance rests as this: UMD is not game breaking, and you do not gain an overwhelming boon by taking advantage of it.

"Use Magical Device" can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be in terms of RP.

For example; activating a wand, using an unfamiliar weapon or piloting a spelljammer. Judging by the fact that a lot of technology is rooted in the arcane, or magically enhanced, you might even justify this as being able to turn on a simple light switch.

Imagine what we could achieve if the time people spent arguing about roleplay was channeled into actually roleplaying.

You are just not attentive enough. Most of people have it.
Nimiane,Jul 29 2016 wrote:Technically a "powerbuild" must have something that makes it 'overpowering' in some way by comparison to average build'. UMD is hardly defined as such.
It is, when you are ignoring basics of roleplaying to get 1 Tumble AC and 5 AC from boots. What a roleplayer will start such things during a char creation, even before starting to play?

I doubt it.

In any case, I don't give a crap as long as they aren't considered the norm by which all content is balanced. And since that's the case, carry on, what's on your character sheet is of no concern to me or anyone else.

EDIT: Can you please tell us, ohh great roleplayer, how do you role-play being able to put on boots? How do you role-play combat experience enabling you to side step from a blow once in a while? The macro-scopic and quantum level modelling of a black hole's Hawking radiation emission patterns sounds much easier.

"Play your character sheet" - the pillar of RP.

Buy normal boots, not monk ones. They are enchanted, prevented to be used by non-monks.

Can you tell me why Monk boots are so special? Do they have a shoe lacing technique that they only teach to Monks all across the known multiverse? Do they have an exact foot size and width that no one other being in the multiverse possesses?
