I've never written to have the certain truth - except some basic elements, if you look at the past posts. And in any case your hostility against me is misplaced, since I did nothing against you nor I'm angry with you, rather the opposite.

In any case, I apologize if I seemed heated. See you in-game sometime?

Regardless of pvp some players do have their saving throw bonuses maxed out, even on a no defense character this makes DC spells useless. If people neglect all defense for offense then they should hope to have allies.

I think the real problem, at least in my mind, is some people very much wish to fix things that were never broken.

There are some things that are broken however, as in they don't do anything or don't do what they're supposed to, or there's never a situation where it will work. But those aren't interesting subjects because very few people have a vested interest in that stuff

There are some very nice items on the server that make many protective spells unnecessary to have. So far I feel that even the junk I have is good, if I were to ask for any more at any point up to now it would only be for power gaming.

My suggestion to solve PvE issues - remove "OP" hired thugs, or make them hireable only if one gets beaten up several times.

I never used them even a single time on any of my melee characters and leveling them was more or less fun nontheless.

And I think, that PvP on RP server is vital... Seriously, how else should one resolve IC conflicts, if nay by force of arms! No quarter for the wicked!

And showdown of heroes is definitely source of more good story, than

"I have clensed the abyss gibberty-hundred hubberteen times and how many hast thou?"
"Abyss is for faliors! Try soloing Death of Innocense juxthousand times in a row!"

I currently love, what story line around The Grey Vizier turned to be. A lich goes outlaw and who wants fame and glory, may try to get his head. He is nay against people attacking him in bunches, as he his actully so good, he can defeat 4 people with min-maxed builds at once.... IC-wise truly epic and formidable opponent.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of this topic is anymore. Trying to compare classes in a PvP sense on this server is like trying to do, well, this -> :beatdeadhorse:

And as for PvE, each class has it's niche. Melee's are supped to be able to go into the front line, kill things, and not get killed. Casters are supposed to be able to cast spells. So more often than not they fall into the buffer/crowd control area. Except clerics, obviously, but they're a different issue.

And, ion fact, I can tell you, having just made a no ECl wizard from scratch, I had an easier time of it at the lower levels, I got to 7 just by hiding behind summons, and died maybe twice. The biggest issue I'm running into is having a lack of meat to hide behind because my summons are still kind of eh power wise right now.

The PvP here is not vital. It's meaningless because there are no consequences. Someone kills you, you respawn and act like it never happened. My last character killed someone in the abyss and cut their penis off. When he saw them in the bazaar, he threw the cut-off withered phallus on the cobbles at the victim's feet, and the guy said "it always grows back, no big deal." True story. Most of the time though PvP just ends with someone complaining that something was unfair and whining to the DMs and wasting everyone's time. It's best to just avoid it. There are lots of ways to measure your character's success, but PvP isn't the best metric for it here. I think it's fine to aim for PvP viability if that's important to you, but you're not likely to have much PvP on Sigil. Again, I wish people would focus more on the story and the RP.

Point is still that melee can get most of what a caster has in terms of survivability without much fuss. And then they also get bunches more hp, attack, damage, feats. Even if you're bog standard fighter, this doesn't even include all the fancy things like divine champ, frenzied bezerker, dwarven defender (now open to all), storm lord, and so on.

You can't judge individual players in pvp as the representation of all characters and classes of an archetype. One player might have your achilles heel but it might not work on the next.

Tons of things kill summons too quickly. The wererat shaman that summons that epic mummy lord that deals 20-60 damage on a nice swing. As a mage that's you and your summon gone. As a fighter that's shrugging off the damage and dealing with the summoner.

People said wait until Limbo, so far it's pretty nice exp and items.

I think the biggest issue, for folks like myself anyway, is that the standard fighter class is boring. If we add a few more fighter specific feats, that'd do a lot towards making it less so.

Yeah, no. High HP and mediocre AC don't add up to what a caster regularly shields themselves with... and yes, you can use wands (cross-class skill taking all of your base skill points) but they cost money (which I somehow doubt you have so little issue with unless your friends are helping) and can only give you the most basic defences for a relatively short time, which late game can get dispelled with a single Disjunction.
