I think it's more that when your profession is genocide, you don't find a guardsman so threatening. Like seriously, what's the kill count on the average character anyway? Even if we consider that to be over-inflated, pretty much every single player character is a killer who probably expects he could cleave through a dozen or so guards anyways.

I've seen and heard every possible excuse at least three times. If people aren't smart enough to leave weapons they can't put away while hanging around the public, in a city where it is illegal to wield weapons... they can really only blame themselves, and need to find their own means to cope with the laws of the city. And if it wasn't clear yet, it is against the laws.

Besides adventurers won't just pick a weapon to their adventure which they are forced to keep on their hands for the entire duration of their travels... because that'd be incredibly impractical. I don't know about you, but I dislike having my hands full all the time i'm walking around, and I'd expect that's a feeling shared by most people, since most people don't have their hands full all the time, just because. Also partially a reason why portable storaging spaces have been invented... such as... I don't know... bags of holding? :P

That's again kind of the prime example... people are more keen to find any possible way to just not go along with anything the Harmonium might request, instead of finding a way to make it doable. Like say.. leaving their favorite halberd back at the inn and instead take a shortsword while going for shopping or drinks? Or magical storage space in a setting with magic in it.
That is way too complicated. Much simplier is if Harmoniums simply use their common sense and do not pick at spear and polearm-carrying people.

If ask me, same could go for greatswords, which are realistic enough to carry around, supported on one's shoulder, rather than in scabbard or on one's back.

And what Whitefly sayed.

Well that's easy to deal with... just institute a "check your weapons at the door" policy. Problem solved as anyone having a weapon (sheathed or not) are equally guilty. No one would like that very much but it would certainly solve your problem of holding big weapons ;)

Isn't it metagaming and/or godmoding to assume that you can cleave every single "guard" whom are trained for their jobs? Especially considering some of those "guards" are infact players on their own? :P

I think you just keep proving my point. You're still continuously looking for ways to make an issue out of a non-issue, rather than find ways to make it work. And then wonder why Hardhead characters are grumpy? Well this is the reason, people being so stubborn about the simplest of things. Nobody has time going through this same thing every day just because it's too difficult to comprehend how "it's illegal" is all the reason they need, and others unwillingness to follow that law is the only concern they have.

Polearms or other unwieldy weapons aren't really a valid exception in a city where bags of holding are so easily obtainable. It's kind of a ridiculous and pointless argument.

Yeah, it's not unrealistic to stick your weapons in your pocket, when your pocket is a portal to an infinite dimension that holds anything and everything. I walk around with 12 halberds and multiple sets of full plate in my pocket - you can almost certainly fit your spear or greatsword into it.

I also RP Alenetha as pulling her katanas out of her bags of holding [she has two because of that pesky 144 cap], which I think is pretty fun to do, since it means I can RP her walking around looking completely unarmed and what not.

@Mandel
Excellent. *Rubs hands together*

Furthermore, this is simple. No one is going to let a barbarian carry an oversized great axe into a church of Ilmater. No one is letting people carry around scythes in their hands around a crowded city (because the city is actually crowded, by the way). Suck it up, move on with your day.

I think it's good lore themed role play that people dislike or disrespect the harmonium. But as for not role playing an npc guard presence I think this is a matter of role playing if they care or not about the incident. We live in an age of unprecedented social control and policing which could not have been supported by a more primitive setting that has not had the industrial revolution or invented mass production. Sigil by design is very fractured and less unified than other places it's more common to get mugged I guess?

I think it can be fine for role play but sometimes it can be a little excessive on many servers. It's a mystery to me but some people get really into it and forget it's not the primary focus of why people play. :tongue:

On the topic of misunderstandings, please remember that the laws in Sigil were created by the factions, not the Lady herself. Sure, she has her select few "I will flay you if you disobey" rules, but there're what... two, maybe three? Don't worship her. Don't worship the god of portals. Don't try to overthrow her directly or indirectly.

I've heard several players mention "her" rules, confusing a bunch of arrogant Guvnor gits' haphazard do's and don'ts by mistake.
