With the exception of Wurm, which I understand to be a Minecraft-ish game, I have tried my hand at all of those things at one point or another. The only one that I think is worth mentioning is Second Life, particularly because of how easy it is to create new basic assets to be used in pretty much any way you want.
What I find so compelling about NWN2 is its DM Client and the transparency between game-mechanics and RP. I could rant about this subject for a very long time. And probably will. Tomorrow. When I am not exhausted from being awake for nearly 20 hours.

That might be so but this is a RP server, There are social servers available for the OOC side of things. There is no official rule because it is simply implied that you RP on the RP server, That said while the OOC does not disrupt RP you will be unlikely to find issue from the staff. The moment that changes however it becomes a issue the staff will address. A good rule of thumb is if its in public take it to pm's.wrote:An ah dunno wha yer gettin at wit tha last bit. Cause on tha same note if ya wanna RP there are plenty ah much MUCH better options than NWN2 as well. Lots ah games/programs tha facilitate RP ta ah much better degree than ah decade old bugged ta hell PC game. Ah jus happen ta like some ah tha folks round tha place an ets nice ta talk ta em outside ah jus RPin. nod.gif

Okay, I think I need to take a bit more time to really depict my perspective since I feel like it's being viewed as more polarizing than I'm intending it to be. I view this topic more as a perspective giver from some of the merchant characters players, as well as an hope that they'd be at least read and ideally given proper thought for. What I don't view it as is some kind of serverwide policy thing. But talking about a more broad opinion of serverwide policy, I think in those scales roleplaying is an expectation (being roleplaying server), non-roleplaying isn't prohibited, but if it isn't something a player wants, they shouldn't get involved into situations where it is rather expected. Going around just mindlessly grinding after a hard day, or goofing around OOC room/arena, or just parking somewhere to chit chat in tells is okay, and generally if it's not disruptive to roleplay, go for it. Yeah, okay that doesn't encompass all the players, but NWN2 is a niche game for niche players, it's fine.
Back to the merchant thing, that to me is a group of roleplayers who are hoping for a bit more effort from their customers and try to think them more as other characters rather than item vending machines. I don't see anything wrong in that, I actually wholeheartedly agree with it. That's my general opinion in any topic, hoping people try a bit more and try to get better. I've played a merchant characters in the past and generally try to make things easier for them, since they provide quality services and help connecting people. They're easily accessible people since you already have a reason to get in touch with them unlike just about any other strangers. There's nothing wrong in hoping for more effort, if you don't want to give it more effort, okay, fine. Don't expect them to think more of you for just shrugging it off so casually. I think it's also productive that some suggestions and perspectives are given.
As for my opinion of NWN2 as a game: I don't think there are any real competitive alternatives to NWN1 or 2 in terms of day to day, hop on, hop off, roleplaying venue which isn't tied to just single guild trying to ignore everyone else in the specific servers. It also doesn't require pre-schedualing or happen only few times a week. I'm not saying other games don't have roleplaying opportunities, but NWN2 has very little more to go for it, and you can pretty much see it in the server selections. NWN2 has two things that really make it suit much better for roleplaying environment than most others: 1) World creation. 2) Autonomy to control it. MMOs do not exclude any players, they include everyone, but that becomes very easily disruptive for roleplaying, player friendly? Most definitely. Roleplaying friendly? Not really.

Heyyy, that was my joke!Mander,Dec 22 2016 wrote:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_n5E7feJHw0
But honestly about this polarising thing, if you're new to RP and you're not used to it, best thing you can do is dive on in and immerse yourself, which is kinda' difficult to do with the training wheels on.
It's a bit like a pantomime where they get a person from the audience to play a part. If you play it badly, that's fine, it's all comedy gold and part of the show, but nobody's going to be happy with you pointing out that the dragon is made of cardboard and held aloft by pulleys.

I mean, because I dislike merchant RP, I generally don't go to people's towers etc to seek them out. Yeah, I'll hang out in the Market, and if you're an enchanter who uses the benches out there, then I';ll RP and buy from you. But in my experience, the people who have their 'houses' and 'shops' to work out of both tend to charge way more, and be a lot more... elitist about what they will sell and how they'll do it. and that's kind of annoying to me OOCly and ICly.
Like I said before, if I need 3 pieces of equipment with +5, +30 HP +1 Regen, I don't want to dance around and say I need "Fullplate with a glimmering armor enchantment beyond measure, that increases my hardiness and knits my wounds, a Cloak that makes me beautiful beyond mortal ken, makes me resistant to all magics as if I were a slayer of mages, and that animates to deflect my enemies blows from me."
It's boring and tedious. I like the part of RPing where things are actually discussed, not trying to figure out how Merchant X wants me to speak, when Merchant Y wants me to speak an entirely different way. I Think part of the issue is that, on many servers including this one, people who play Merchants play their Merchants as... Merchants. Not characters. Very rarely do I see a merchant in their stall actually keeping up with small talk except with customers who they stop talking to as soon as they walk away. Very often I see merchants log on, put up a sign, and walk to their home where they'll prefer to hang out alone for 2+ hours, instead of interacting with anyone.
This isn't saying all merchants do this, but merchant RP is somehow more repetitive RP than campfire RP - especially when all merchants are elitist abrasive types, which seems to be the case pretty often.

I kind of agree with the points you make kitty. I'd like to point out that on both sides of the merchant exchange, the whole process is VERY boring and tedious. I do not even bother to put up a shop most of the time unless I can find a way to make it entertaining for everyone involved.
I wish there were more ways to reasonably buy/trade/sell goods without
1. some person having to be bored for hours on end with farming/crafting wares and then sitting around a (potentially) dead bazaar
2. someone else not being able to get what they need because only 1d3 players are available/willing/equiped to devote the time to said farming/selling every 1d20 days.

Yeah, I mean, Frahara has been setting up shop and selling stuff to people, but I also have her set up at a stall and then... walk up to the proper area of the Bazaar so she can chat with people, because I don't wanna sit alone and not interact with people, and hear half the conversations. Sitting around for hours and making maybe 2-3 sales sucks just as much as being the person buying and having to jump through hoops.DigitalDragoon,Dec 22 2016 wrote: I kind of agree with the points you make kitty. I still do it, because I know a lot of new characters need merchants to buy things from, since quite a few will charge like 10k for a simple +5 item. But that doesn't make it the most 'fun' on either end.

Last time I shopped with Miranda, I got a magic bag at so far below the usual asking price, I think I bought like, two or three of them. It were proper mint, mate. Actually all my RP with Miranda has been really great and this is starting from the first day I met her and I was a total scrubglub; it's always interesting and worth the time. Not sure where you're getting the elitist vibe o.O;
