Where did this thought of 'forcing' come into play? Nobody is forcing anyone to do anything :P it's not about forcing, it's about whether we believe that term X is fine, or if we could try to put some more thought into it. If you don't feel like it, fine, don't. But don't assume that player merchants should feel content about just being an item vending machine, because I don't think most people really care much about that. Which is why I feel a token effort to try to make their invaluable service less a chore and more interesting for either side.

Oh? Nah tryin ta force anythin?

And tha thread started nah wit ah "Ah enjoy when folks RP this way an dislike when they RP this way" but wit ah "Do er Do Nah do these things when RPin wit my character." Tha sorta talk reads like commandments an nah polite suggestions dear.

Most ah tha time when ah'm playin in tha game ah'm there ta RP. But ah spent plenty ah time over tha last year er so in game jus talkin OOC ta folks er playin on ah alt an doin my own thing ta relax an hang out. Ah don tend ta bother other folks wit my lack ah RPin when et happens. Ah try ta be polite an respond ta folks if they come up an start some sorta RP. But ah aint always up fer et an ah'll excuse myself from tha RP as soon as ah can.

Tha said.. ah guess ah didn know ah was 'required' ta RP while logged in. Cause ah been steppin all over ah rule tha ah didn see anywhere before now.

Regardin tha merchants.. If ah merchant aint interested in sellin stuff OOCly.. tha's absolutely fine by me. Ah aint gonna make ah deal ah tha fact. But ah don understad why ya caint even ask. Ah'm nah gonna demand tha ah merchant act like ah vending machine. But ah migh ask em ta buy somethin OOCly... an they're welcome ta say they aint interested. Simple as tha. Ah can try somewhere else an ets all good.

In tha past ah have purchased plenty ah stuff from folks tha has been jus ah understood OOC transaction between tha players. An surprisingly.. nothin caught on fire jus cause we werent RPin every las second ah game play time.

Well you are in a RP server, the whole roleplaying is an expectation x) there's no real getting around it no matter how you put it. But way/quality/style of roleplaying isn't forced. But I don't think SCoD needs to adhere to the needs of non-roleplayers as a roleplaying server. If people really don't want to roleplay, fine, but there are genuinely better mediums for that than NWN2.

When ah'm nah around wit tha intent ta RP ah aint expectin any sorta accommodations ta be made fer me. Ah jus expect ta be able ta hang out wit folks an chat ah bit. Shoudn bother anyone far as ah can tell. Aint like ah'm sayin ah hate folks who RP while ah'm nah interested wit doin et er tha ah want em ta stop. XD

And ya can say tha way/style/quality aint forced..which et technically aint.. but there's some definite weird expectations by tha RP police goin round tha forum an server. Fer instance... this thread.

An ah dunno wha yer gettin at wit tha last bit. Cause on tha same note if ya wanna RP there are plenty ah much MUCH better options than NWN2 as well. Lots ah games/programs tha facilitate RP ta ah much better degree than ah decade old bugged ta hell PC game. Ah jus happen ta like some ah tha folks round tha place an ets nice ta talk ta em outside ah jus RPin.

I would be glad to hear your recommendations because I actually came to NWN2 after concluding that it was the single best Online Multiplayer game for RP.

Sorta off topic an ah don wanna derail anythin but ta anwer yer question.

Et likely depends on wha yer lookin fer exactly. But all ah these games.. have ah actual -game- attached ta em an nah jus grinding areas. Cept maybe second life.. ets sorta weird. They also have ah good ta great RP community available in em along wit amenities fer RP like housing an RP outfits an proper emotes/mounts/player communications. Tha only one ah aint RPed in personally es secondlife. Tha others ah can speak ta havin plenty ah RP if yer interested in et. If this was ah 'gotcha' question where yer gonna say ya don like these sorta RP games then.. uh.. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Also heard tha new Final Fantasy has ah mighty fine RP community available but tha aint my dig so ah caint give ya much on et. If yer up fer some serious RP.. get yerself inta ah good Wurm server. Great RP game. Really.

Infact when something is depicted as efficient, you don't just do it efficiently, you emote the nature of the efficiency in roleplaying. So don't let yourself get lazy on that excuse, especially when we're all practicing more or less a celebration of gameplay inefficiency.

If you don't enjoy a kind of RP then don't do it. That goes for any kind of RP.

But I'm still going to advocate for quality over efficiency. Not that I think efficiency is a bad thing, but I'd rather prioritize RP. When you are idling for hours without anyone to talk to it is really wonderful when someone stops and takes that little extra time to actually RP with you for 10 or 20 minutes instead of using coded language to refer to game terms and then go on their way.

This is a multiplayer game and the people facilitating the exchange of goods are people too. The least you could do is engage them a bit.

Very interesting thoughts on the matter, thoughts divided into three distinct tiers (see what i did there?)

Tier 1, you have those who whole heartedly support merchant rp between customers and and the postive benefits it brings.

Tier 2, seems to be the people who would rather -not- under take merchant rp BUT they understand it does exist and so they dont shy away from it.

Tier 3:Are those who just want to get their stuff at walmart and get out. This is fine as well, and at the end of the day we do need to respect these people because at the end of the day, there are two sides of the same coin. We cant force those who shop with us into merchnt rp if they dont want to, but on the other side of the same coin, we also dont have to give up our rp if YOU dont want to rp with the merchant infront of you.

Is there a middle ground? Maybe an option to place everyone on the same situation on a case by case basis? Maybe a toggle in the scry tool or maybe a mention on a sign saying "RP mendatory or rp preferred?.

Do you all think that there is a possible balance or neutral ground or is it a fruitless idea to even contemplate?.

While the minds think on that, Id like people to weigh in on another simple matter.

Location, location, location.

Does one merchants location give them control over the presence of merchant/customer roleplay?.

We have many merchants who have their own homes and shops, Rhistel does, Miranda of course, and i know there are others out there who's names i cant think of.

So the question is, if a merchant sets up a tiny stall in the middle of the market, they are in a public place where peoples ability to respect and take other peoples roleplay styles has more weight sometimes.

But when you take the merchants location and make it more personal and intimate to that merchant does it change the dynamic or give people the power to sway the dynamic of roleplaying?.

Me personally, I think it does.

If a merchant leaves up signs in the bazaar saying their shop is located in the abyss, or elysium or ladys ward or clerks ward or in the foul spirit or where ever they may be and someone makes the effort to travel all the way to that merchants location, should that be implied consent that your willing to place yourself both literally and metaphorically on the merchants playgrounds and there for your consenting to interact with them on their level?.

We cant and nor should anyone ever force a roleplay style on anyone at any time, that goes against everything that is good and holy about roleplaying, at least i think by sigil standards where we have a very open rp policy but...what do you think, does location and ownership of that location change the dynamics?
