Now I'm confused. I'm actually arguing against the idea of running your character as if it's a spreadsheet. :blink:Jelkia,Jun 3 2016 wrote:Exactly. Matter has nothing to do with RP. Thine argument about "disliking RP being emphasized" is void.rapsam2003,Jun 3 2016 wrote:I've already stated why, multiple times. I'm not going to keep repeating myself. If you dislike that RP is emphasized on a RP SERVER, then why don't you find another game or another server?!Taihou,Jun 3 2016 wrote: rapsam2003, and why shouldn't? Just take it as fact and get over it. And if do nay like it here, find another server, where rules are more to thine liking.
And as for finding another server, it is what thou should do, because it is thou who dislike, how things are here now.

So, because it's "fine", we shouldn't strive to improve things? Oh, ok.Taihou,Jun 3 2016 wrote:For example out of general courtesy, especially towards those, who had been there for long enough (and way longer, than myself for example), and thus may take this as putting screws on things. As former admin, thou should like no-one other notice, that server has been running for five long years without need for such restrictions and, believe me, will just finely live as much and longer without them.Mr_Otyugh,Jun 3 2016 wrote: Well if you look at the build rule closely, it does say this part in the end: "General rule of thumbs to us is that if in build it's not prevented by mechanics then it can be done." but there's no guarantees or promises that the said mechanics couldn't be changed. Designing via mechanics than manual governing is just generally speaking more efficient.

Nah, it's just a matter of proper marketing and handling the changes right way. When it's blatantly mentioned everyone are imagining nightmare scenarios rather than spending a couple minutes to think about what it could mean. Usually when I'm given two options to choose from, I'm already thinking of the third one instead, and I don't think having any 3 level limits mechanically would achieve more than changing the powerbuilds to different ones. Besides more likely version of it would be to require higher levels of specific classes for some traits since that'd be easier mechanical implementation, about as unpopular version. Personally I'd go for adjusting abilities to improve by levels instead, meaning that one level dips would be possible, but they'd be less optimal. Also it has actually ran for for 7 years without them.Taihou,Jun 3 2016 wrote:For example out of general courtesy, especially towards those, who had been there for long enough (and way longer, than myself for example), and thus may take this as putting screws on things. Ah think tha problem is that we just don't see how adding in restrictions on power building's gonna help RP.
Take ah deep breath er something there dear.. aint trying ta get yer red up. Just not agreein that power building is making things worse. Er that restricting its gonna help.
No one has ta go ta another server. Everything's alright here.

This very phrase could be used as a convenient excuse to mix every possible artifact and instruments of war, even if there wouldn't be the logical reason to do so. Like the devout cleric "Ghandi", follower of Peace Incarnate, who suddenly picks up a sword and takes fighter levels because "I've changed my mind/alignment today, let's worship Mars, god of war". And I've seen this happening more than few times in all my career as an rpg-player, it's not a thing confined to just D&D and PnP. It's the scourge of this kind of game, like an irregularity simulation in a sport game to gain an advantage. Some rules are given as preambles, they're not written in any book, especially this one I'm citing.Whitefly,Jun 3 2016 wrote: If you try to be too literal with the mechanics, your character just looks like a spreadsheet rather than a person.

Exactly what needs improving here? This is a thread about how fighters are underpowered in regards to mages when it comes to say things like soloing viability. quite frankly, apples and oranges. (At least from what I first picked up in here, It just be more generally about fighters now that I think about it.)
Mechanically, I think the server rules as they are now are quite fine, what I'm seeing a problem with is that people are getting all bent out of shape because THEY don't see the RP value in SOMEONE ELSE'S build. It's not anyone's job to justify their build to the RP police -- At least not here (Infact it's often an excuse to metagame someone). That's part of the reasons I like it here, we have freedom to create interesting characters at least to ourselves and if other people don't like it they can pike off.

Do I make sense or nay - nay for thou to decide. Thine ideas are harmful and dangerous for the welfare of the server and thus do nay be surprised, that they are opposed. As for "done with me" - well, thine choice of course.rapsam2003,Jun 3 2016 wrote: I'm done with you, man. You aren't even making sense anymore. Sorry if you can't stand that some people may want to improve things that excite them. I LOVE Planescape as a setting, always have. God forbid I may put forth my opinion as to what would improve a server that uses Planescape as a setting. There's literally no talking with you here.
