I dislike such events... the roleplay often sucks in large groups.

To be fair, they did clarify that it's more orientated toward OOC grinding than IC adventuring. Because of the clear IC issues.

OOC grindfests like that help a ton if you want to play a concept beyond "Clueless peasant" and be taken at least somewhat seriously once you actually start to do RP. It's difficult to portray a grizzled veteran who stumbled upon Sigil when you are so weak you can't hit the broad side of a barn until level ten or so. I mean, unless you do the whole "Oh no, I stepped through the portal and tripped and hit my head, conveniently making me lose all my memories, and then while I was in a daze someone stole all my stuff!" thing. Which starts to stretch belief when so many people play that trope in the beginning.

Not that I've done that trope more times than I remember either, no siree.

Easy enough OOC hook: someone takes the "leadership" role and represent the planewalker's guild, who may have hired these adventurers from many locations. They could be from gate towns or planar locations but just haven't had the chance to do much adventuring (or visit Sigil, for that matter) yet. It's all exploration that just happens to lead to combat, rather than "let's go to Plane X and kill stuff!" and even in the case of "angel and demon on the same team" it can give them an excuse to interact (and even make a new frenemy) without it having to descend into fighting. "I'd normally not put up with tanar'ri scum, but I'll set that aside in the interests of completing this task".

Additionally, if you guys feel as though you'd like an NPC to start you on your way (based on Ceremorph's suggestion) as well as make it a bit of an adventure, I'd be happy to jump on the client and show some support, offer a few bounties (first person to bring X number of looted Y gets a prize, etc) and peddle a few wares to keep things interesting.

Any and all interest is welcomed, this is after all just a bit of fun :)

Having an EM or DM kickstart it would be great as well, might even be able to do a few server shouts beforehand to let players who might not be on the forum know about this serverside on the day.

Thanks guys for all the input so far! Keep it up and let everyone else know about it, everyone can help or join in some way or another I reckon :)

That it is, sorry for not posting earlier but I've been busy busy lately :)

I believe we're still doing it, same time and we'll be meeting up in the Bazaar to start it off (where else eh?).

From what I've gathered on the thread, we should be fine with just the one party, but at 7:30 we'll know what the numbers are actually like, and split up from there if necessary.

And I promised a list of areas we would be travelling to, so here it is, from 1-30 (Even if it's highly unlikely we'll get past the teens).

Start --> Bazaar

1-4ish Mechanus

5-9ish Wererats

10-14ish Ethereal Plane

15-18ish Earth Plane

19-25ish Githyanki Fortress

Finish --> Carceri... If that were possible with our motley crew

Obviously the list is rough estimates, and we'll certainly just jump area if things are too difficult or progressing too slowly. But I reckon these are the less used areas on the server and I'm sure we'd all like to give them a go and see if they're viable. If anyone has any suggestions or wants to do 2 areas for a certain level range, just post here or suggest impromptu.

If we are RPing this group, then please mention either in this thread or on the server before 7:30 if any of the areas we are going to are no-goes for your character. Example, a would be Guvner going to grind Mechanus might be considered not cool.

Thank you to all for the interest shown thus far, and I hope we'll have a fantastic session tomorrow :)

ps. If any intrepid provisioners want to hop online during this grind group with a bag full of lowbie gear, I'm certain we'd all have need of it.

Any chance we could get a manual server reset an hour before we start for folks who might want to run a rebuild through this?
