There's 666 levels of the Abyss. :P Some of them have got to be ok for Planeswalkers who aren't uber-geared & high level.
Only 666, what happened to infinite layers? Did it get "balanced" too because the devils were complaining the demons had too many?

For those curious... in the earliest editions of D&D when Abyss was designed, it was mentioned it had 666 layers... then in the 80ies there was a massive religious outcry against pnp rpg's in general and D&D in particular for their use of devils and demons... so in 2nd edition they renamed Devils to "Baatezu" and Demons to "Tanar'ri" and did other small changes to try be less obviously "heretical", this included saying that Abyss now had infinite layers.

That said, even with infinite layers, every edition has been careful to not add any layer that has a number higher than 666, so I guess it comes down to preference which lore you prefer.

Sorry people if I add to the OT for a while: :P

The number six-hundred and sixty-six was given as a symbol to represent the infinite layers of which the Abyss is composed. Sure, in D&D cosmology, the main 666 layers are the most vile, but again there's an infinite number before them, in the middle of each one and after. :D
If I was a character in D&D, even having epic levels on my shoulders, I wouldn't suggest anyone equal to me to take a visit in the deep Abyss, not before resurrecting Karsus and having him cast the 10th, 11th and 12th level spells... :D

p.s.

Infinite, means "not finite", that could mean either that they can't be numbered because they're too many, or that their real number is unknown, or in general from Latin: "not defined". I guess they've tried to give it a symbolic number to allow masters to avoid constant questions from their players...

In the future make your statement in the private to DMs though, thanks. :P It's not far from being as bad on its own.

And yes I'm going to make a statement here why having these things sorted out in "public" is bad. First and foremost is that it's going to only make matters worse. People who have no idea what happened will be involved to partial stories that everyone dubs as "the truth". While it may feel nice to have a personal vendetta be vented on others and get a sense of "justice" be done, that's less fun when it happens to you. Because it can easily mean that others will have poorer opinion of the target, and sometimes for no good reason. There are genuine mistakes too, and some people are okay even if first impressions haven't been too good, so it's unfair to try to "burn bridges" for them for personal reasons.

Secondly, you'll open up venues to make the overall server environment be that much less hospitable and welcoming. Because the moment one of these is allowed, means all of them will be. And I can assure everyone, nobody's going to enjoy gaming environment where everyone can talk s*** of everyone else with little repercussion.

So keep it in private! Keeps outsiders happier the less they know about drama behind the scenes since it doesn't involve them anyway. ^.^

Then again I care little if people themselves are willing to admit having been the person that did as accused. :P That's their prerogative.

*edit* And yes I understand the irony behind this message. But lets just say it's a decent point about the second part, go for it and you'll get to listen me make moral and ethical preaching.

*edit 2* Oh and just so it's clear, I don't have harsh feelings either way. ;D this is purely pre-emptive message, not a discredit one. As the same post already implies: everyone makes mistakes, so take that as the most valuable lesson in perspectives.

I think the real question we have to ask ourselves is... Just how big of an infinity is the Abyss?

It's like asking how many decimal digits you can count in an irrational number. :D

@Mr. O: The other thing is, by making these kind of things public, people who have no business knowing (meaning people who are neither Staff nor were directly involved in the incident) now know about it. It's key to promote a sense of harmony and general "like" in a community. If one throws the "dirty laundry" out into the open, there's now a sense of discord and "dislike", no matter how temporary that is.

@Godolia il Magus: Wasn't there some theory that, due to Tharizdun creating the Abyss accidentally in the way that it happened, the Abyss is always "growing" and new layers were added over time? I can't remember where I saw that, but it seems viable if we consider the background of Tharizdun: http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Tharizdun. The seed of the Abyss that he planted could still be expanding, for all we know.

I agree rapsam2003. Me and phantomhermit already chatted in private a little and I know the DMs are looking into it, so everything's theoretically okay! :)
