Of course wands aren't as good as real spells. But somehow people think it's fine to say, for example, that an ecl race only needs 21 caster levels so they're equally dispelled, and then they have even less ac and even less hp.

It might not be ultimate god at everything, but it's a far cry from being unfair. There are so many hours that have gone into giving melee characters options. If people hate magic so much just look at mage slayer:
  • 12hp
  • all high saves
  • high base attack
  • spell immunity of choice per day
  • 45 spell resistance
  • instant disrupt
  • give everyone spell failure in aoe

haha, the chant I hear about mage slayer is that people say the lack of magic isn't worth the benefits. Ironic. It's always seemed rather powerful to me. And it combines disarmingly well with stalwart defender.

I mean it's very powerful just for the saves and the spell resistance. Not even monk is going to give you that, and if you neglect umd then why not, just 5 levels too

Maybe fighter + divine champ + defender + mage slayer

Take steadfast determination, epic resiliency and epic damage reduction, I don't think anyone will be taking you down soon ...

Ha, throw it on a ::troll:: (I mean the race) for some great fun. Because innate regen really brings it over the top. You might have to squeeze out the champion bit. but still very strong.

There really aren't many negatives. There have been servers where all end game monsters have AC above the highest attack bonus. If you want to talk hard you're better using a place like that as an example.

It's just a fact the positives largely outweigh the negatives which seems to be meager damage resistance some monsters have.

End game monsters have roughly 40 AC or more, especially on the higher difficulty modes which everyone takes for the increased XP and spawn rate. While not difficult to get past, its a high enough number to stop half your attacks from suceeding. ;)

And yes, most classes have more positives than negatives, its just that Fighters and their ilk with 0 magic are completely reliant on other class' abilities to succeed, not to mention and increased reliance on item quality and consumables, which are the main negatives everyone has kept bringing up :P

I dunno, my fighter is casting spells from items, it seems a moot point trying to argue that anyone on this server is without magic. Well maybe exception for mage slayer prc.

Speaking of gambling, how about the time I failed a 50% chance for success 20 times in a row on my Psion? *walk in, do apparently nothing for 2 minutes, walk out, rest*

It's better when some attacks are certain to hit, and other attacks still have a chance to hit. Even with a low attack you can't discount those last few.

If fighters turn out to be very powerful (in your opinion) and you feel you need to play a class that is mechanically equal or above others, then this experience could show that fighters fit this need.

The fighter comparison (and associated opinions) is a good read and follow; I'm quite enjoying it. But keep in mind that often an attempt to show something is too powerful is usually a hidden attempt to boost that person's preferred class. Stay neutral.

Carry on the adventure! (I'm curious to see Nilf/Carceri/Maze/Carceri episodes - neutral no preferences on success/failure)

Fighter is typically boring so maybe this thread will motivate some to play.

P.S. Sigil is rather high magic. The only reason it seems like it takes a while to get items is the no-muling rule. Otherwise, every new toon would indeed have +5 everything. Even on BG, long-time players mule a starting package to their new toons. The no-muling is beneficial for some early magic restriction and the economy...so it's all good.

Very high magic is like RoT where most items are +12 and most class feats are very common on items.

Is it possible to curtail the magic level just for the casters while mantaining the existing (if not augmenting it) for non-casters?
Why do you keep asking for casters to be brought down? They are limited in game. Their dcs dont scale as fast as monsters saves do for 1-30 server. Their elemental damage is pointless thats why you dont see blasting type of caster. They get crowd control. Psions make better blasters then a sorc ever does))

I cant say Iv ever seen a caster do wail of the banshee or similar because lv 9 slots are going be limited to about 5-7 slots and is better used else where then a 50/50 chance of catching something dead in the abyss.

serious. You played one here? You think its enjoyable to blow your load the first three minutes for one spawn while your friend on the other side playing melee you buffed is happily head hunting asking if you need to rest..5 min after getting in.

Clerics dont need any buffs. They are fine as are.

but for a 1-30 server, we could have our elemental damage to go beyond their hit die caps so spells even like fireball are still useful .

================================================================
Now I cant help that your average joe fighter is boring . The feats of the new trees for shadow hand and stuff are more like half feats so you spend 3 slots for getting one full feat so you can play whack a mole on your hot bar to make it look like your more interesting .

I haven't asked to do it :D, I've asked if it is possible regardless of choosing to do it or not. It's different. :P

(By "possible" I mean in the common order of things, not a titanic quest)

-edit-
I've realised I used a terrible grammar to convey the *question (fixed), I should have written "Would it be" instead of "is it".
