So that's why I haven't seen you on at all lately. Well, I hope you get a lucky break in the future.

To sum it up:

It appears that Railgun's issue was that the McAfee Security Scanner program was eating up over 40% of his CPU usage, which was just enough that NWN2, which also uses 40% or more (especially on startup), could not execute successfully.

Disabling McAfee seems to have fixed the problem.

Railgun, if you still have problems, let me know next time I'm in IRC, or post it here, and we can do some more troubleshooting. =)

Edit: Also, apologies to nursalim for hijicking a thread. On the topic, there is a stickied thread in the general discussion forum where you can see who lives in your time zone, if you're interested.

As a professional computer repair guy...

Yeah. McAfee sucks that way. (Oh, and it tends to miss a crapload of viruses, too)

A rather excellent little piece of antivirus software is malwarebytes. Free version does everything except automatic functions.

No antivirus is 100%, though.

Yeah, as a recommendation, even better than Anti-Virus software is to use Firefox as your web browser, and make sure that you have the No Script addon installed. It gives you complete control of what can and cannot execute in the websites that you visit. This puppy probably stops about 95% of all viruses.

You can get Firefox here: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/personal.html
You can get No Script here: http://noscript.net/

Edit: Did I mention that it blocks a LOT of ads? ;D

eep another one.

yeah mCcrapies misses tons of stuff and protects system folders so once its in getting it out you have to remove that piece of junk.

Maleware bytes is a darn good anti spyware app. Need anti virus

Kaperskies (sp?) or AVG would be worth it.

I like Trend Micro, myself. It's extremely lightweight, hardly uses any CPU.

I'll recommend Avast! as it's open source (free, woohoo) and it seems to do the job for me, as far as anti-virus goes.

Are those other folk self-employed, too? Just curious!

Avast isn't bad, but the free version expires after awhile. (I think you can trick it into renewing, though) Plus it talks...

Malwarebytes also kills viruses. Though again, not 100%. In a pinch, I often use ComboFix and/or manual removal.

I still use Internet Explorer, but that's just because I don't like Firefox's interface. Also, I like to see some ads. Have to be ready to kill it your browser with task manaer in a pinch, though, whatever you use.

AVG is decent, as is Trend Micro... I mostly use their HijackThis!, though.
