If people keep abusing this privilege, maybe we should put something like a timer of 1-4 hours or something on a chest, to make them vanish by themselves eventually.

what some Severs do, is they put a inactive timer/script in.

Were if some one did not move/type for x amount of time. The Scrip would boot the person in question. That would allow other players to remove/brake down the stated stall(s). That the AFK/inactive Persion is at/on.

The amount of time I would suggest would be 90 mins. That offers enuff time to deal with most irl common ishews/brakes. Any more time then that is kinda bit much.

If I'm to be cynical about it though, booting the character is not the ideal situation, since the number of logged in players is the metric that shows how "popular" the server is, so targeting chests directly would be preferable. (plus, it also helps taking gold out of the economy)

*Nods once*
Witch would lead to us players having to " deal " with a annoying scripted.

Unless we the player base start to police our selfs, with bit more vigor. When it comes to the merchant display casess.

I don't know what's so hard to understand, it's been said ICly and OOCly a dozen times. No one can claim ignorance.

There are a lot of merchants but there's room for everyone. Clean up your shit so the next person set up. There's no good IC reason to leave your stuff when you're logging out or going out to grind. Honestly, a merchant who really left their stuff behind like that would probably be robbed, right?

In an effort to have a conscientious RP I think this is especially important because merchants could be considered rivals even when they share a measure of cooperation. Leaving your stuff out in a popular spot deprives a competitor of an opportunity. I think we should always be trying to be extra conscientious when it comes to OOC/meta choices that could be construed as for personal IC gain, and this issue is right on the line.

Have some class, do your part for the community, and take your stuff down when you're done. Do you want the generous talented folks who spend time on a regular basis designing us awesome content like new magic items and areas and the like wasting time writing you a script to wipe your own ass?

If someone would generate an ass-wiping animation, I could easily get it to fire when using the toilet object, or as tag-based scripting on a Toilet Paper of Softness in your inventory.

On the other hand I should be careful since someone actually did make this:
Bodily Functions VFX?

Is it possible to replace the current system of chests with actual merchant stalls that have a built in functionality of the same type but with a renewable timer on them the merchant would have to toggle every 30 minutes or so?

We're suffering some pretty severe lag right now. There are at least two merchant stalls set up with no merchant and another with an AFK merchant.

Be considerate, clean up your stuff.
