A Bit Of Help, Please?

One obscure bug 5 years ago, according to google, which caused issues like this was caused by bluetooth dongle, a stretch thing to check, but in absence of other ideas I guess it won't take long.

Another possible obscure solution if you're working with two screens, nvidia display cloning/mirroring has had problems too, turning it off might fix it.

I'm not working with two screen, which should eliminate that possible bug.

On the other hand, though, I'm using bluetooth. I installed it 6 months ago though. Is it possible that it creates a problem after all this time? Anyway, what do you suggest? Uninstall the bluetooth thingy?

Well you could try removing it, yes. Can't exactly guarantee anything, but you've gone through just about all the regular options that most can think of, some of them several times, so I figured it's time to check the less obvious choices. I have no personal experience about it, I just looked around google for similar symptons, and one of the topics that I came around with that didn't have attempts you already had tried was this: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/a ... 99899.html

EDIT: OK, this is truly strange. I noticed when launching the game that my PC was trying to connect to my mobile phone using bluetooth. I tried "accepting" the request a few times but that didn't help, once I refused the request... the game launched. W.T.F?

EDIT2: It doesn't actually matter if I accept or reject the bluetooth connection - it tries 3 times, as long as I respond in some way, the game will eventually launch. I've never seen anything like this before.

EDIT3: Removed my Bluetooth dongle and now the game launches immediately. I promise I've not been smoking anything. I guess this won't work for everyone but you're going to have to think outside the box if you're getting similar weird problems - remove everything that isn't important, especially external/mapped/virtual drives etc.

And when I was looking around other topics, and replies here and there, they seemed to echo that it had indeed caused issues.

There is another thing that can show symptoms as program failure: Bad/corrupted HD sectors and/or memory.

It wouldn't hurt to run an analysis of those.
