I am mostly curious to see how unforgiving it really is, or isn't, and as you agree I don't think starting out is hard at all. I think Sigil is very favorable to new melee fighters. Most of the random items are usable and you can easily skip +1, +2 with the random drops you find. I am curious how far it pans out until I'm forced to cross class if I am. =)
But many of the problems you mention are also for offensive casters. Niffleheim archers might rip thru anything if you let it and 1/4th the hp gives less time to react.
Terrible Woes Of Playing A Fighter On Sigil

Your playing a fighter with all the new bonus feats with .. lots of feats. I dont think a plain fighter is going have problems soloing so much. Just dull.
In the case of builds like barbarians and paladins that are waiting for standard 3 6 9 feats and so on, it makes it more difficult.

Well, as MR O sayed, just reach high enough lvl and you'll see. I would say at lvl 15 in Astral you will be already facing difficulties with soloing, while by reaching Abyss... well see for thine self.
Also when lvl 30, try to PvP some FS/Pally or Monk/Sacred fist character, especially when they are fully buffed.

To be fair sometime ago i did barbarian\fighter character to lvl 25 in a week.It was't too hard and 90% of time i was alone, also i was lucky with drop. But on the other side - i need 2 days to lvl wizard or sorc from lvl1 to lvl25 without items, and they got much more fun gameplay

I think Mr Scalerage soloed GC Abyss with a more or less pure barbarian. It's not impossible, by any means. Just that the lack of gear tends to hurt you severely around level 7+ and upwards. If you are fully geared and know what you're doing, you might have something Carceri-worthy in your hands. Maybe. At least in a team. Probably.

Going pure fighting class is doable as long you're properly geared. My method is to rebuild a few times and accumulate some gear and jink as much as I can since the sewers are pretty generous, this becomes vital when you reach the level 13-15 difficulty spike.

That's the gist of it, yes. And they lack any form of contingency. If getting close and hitting things doesn't work, well that's your entire character negated, since that's just about everything they do.Alersia,May 30 2016 wrote: My issue with fighters is more that their playstyle lacks variety.
You simply attack and thats it.
A caster has lots of options to choose from. Even if some arent good.

So far soloing up to Ethereal, Mercuria, Plane of Earth. No real problems except when I tried to gatecrasher ethereal at level 7 or 8. It took much longer to get anywhere on Psion, sure the hard hitting stuff still hits hard. The difference is I have over 200 hp instead of like 40 so I don't get one shot.
Yes, why not use hirelings, or any other item available that's what they're there for. I have easily farmed over 20k in less than a day starting as level 1 fighter. I already have almost 40 ac and found an enchanted weapon with fire damage. Just mismatched items I scrapped together along the way, if I had taken the time to gear up properly it would be so much easier I think. I don't know which weapon is good later so I just picked something but I'll probably change it eventually. So far just using battle axe and shield because the models are funny, it looks like a rusty cleaver and trashcan lid. ^^;
This is a big contrast to starting as a very killable class that dies on just one bad roll. It took weeks to accomplish what I just did in a day. It's just a matter of rinse and repeat, heal up damage, my weapon doesn't run out in 5 swings. Maybe it will get harder when I reach over 50 ac and better items? :blink:
It's like I'm one of the gang now, a blood, do you know what I mean? A real cutter wooo!

The fighter has always been the most bland in the classic classes: even the thief is many notches higher than the fighter, in meaningfulness.
However, the fighter, in the range of 1 to 9-10 levels, is absolutely essential to a balanced party, and sometimes (more times for people who enjoy it) it feels really satisfying to chop-up monsters to save the puny wizard or the incautious thief from danger, or to protect the cleric while he casts some useful aiding stuff.
I mean, I understand where's the catch with the fighter, I just don't appreciate how it's rendered in D&D (before 5th ed. of course). It was cool until AD&D, but things should have changed when AD&D2° came out.
