I like casters... Especially the arcane kind(necros) and druids. Cant arse myself to play clerics despite trying many many times. And its not the religious bit that bores me, simply that they are to powerful, at least on my last server where +2 items were near uniques(nwn1).

Other than that I go with what makes sense to pick in character. I always try to go for at least one PrC in PnP and here on S:CoD to, because I like em. Usually I go all out in that PrC to, or at least 5+ lvls, exception can be Pale Master in NWN since they are about half of what they ought to be.

I never take things that dont make sense, such as shadowdancer for a character that aint obsessed with stealth. SD is one of those classes that requires a dedicated character in my mind, same with Monks and Paladins(and other religious classes, ergo no dabbling). Same goes for skills and feats, dont take UMD or other such "rare" skills unless they make sense to have beyond being able to use +5 AC boots :P

I tend to develop background more fully as I play, starting out with vague ideas and naught but the basics set in stone.

I look at what who character is RP wise and then build my character to best fit that role. If its a rogue I focuse on skills and feats that make him an effective one.

I prefer builds that do not have a lot of buffing or downtime, but something with a bit more to offer than a fighter.

I tend to justify my build to my character, not my charater to build "lore" since no one knows what my build is anyway. I always build my build in www.nwn2db.com before starting him in a game, I have made mistakes before and I want to avoid that when I invest time in the community.

Currently I have:

Main - Ranger/NWN/Assassin/Invs Blade (Bounty Hunter)
2nd - Wizard/SoC (Addleminded Wizard in search of knowledge)
3rd - Rogue/Swash/Shadowdancer/Fighter (Professional Thief)
4th - Cleric/Sor/RDD/Doomguide (Undead Hunter)

I must say I prefer my Bounty Hunter and Thief the most.

Rules are not something I think about when building, I just build to fit my personal internal RP story.

Just the opposite for me. I've played a lot of evil characters in the past, but as I've gotten older, their allure has dropped to practically nil.

Which might make them enough of a challenge in the future for me to attempt another one . . . . . not impossible. Yet improbable.

I lean towards lawful characters. Though Dave is my chaotic awesome.

I'm still not 100% sure why, but I can not play a male character. Every time I try to I think the same thing: "Wow, this feels wrong."

I also tend to avoid lawful and good characters. No real preference for a build's classes, though.

-I always play a female character first on a new server. It is sooooooo much easier to meet people that way! :P (Absolutely true.) After that, I tend to play male characters, though I usually make an effort to play whichever there are fewer of just for server balance.

-I almost always play humans with occasional elves. I do this for the same reason I tend to play males: server population balance.

-Except on the occasions when I am creating a character for a specific purpose (which generally makes them NPCs, really, just on a player account) I almost never plan anything about their build prior to playing the character. Their build always derives from their experiences in game. This sometimes leads to rather awkward builds. One of my all-time favorite characters was envisioned as a wizard, but try as I would, he never found anyone to teach him magic.

-I have never played a warlock. I am not sure why. I think a Fey warlock could be interesting, but I never seem to get around to it.

-In terms of alignment, I typically start characters near neutral. How they evolve from there depends on, well, how they evolve. Most often, I find that characters become more good rather than evil, though there have been exceptions. (This mostly occurs as they develop relationships and become less selfish.)

-No recycled characters... I never play characters from another server except in the rare instance where I am popping on to check out something on a new server. In that case, I will sometimes recreate an old favorite, just so I do not have create an entire persona for a character I know that I am not going to play for long.

-Every character has some gaping personal flaw, which is generally reflected somewhere in their construction, and always somewhere in their RP. (This is both an RP and a build rule for me.)

I think you have more classes than all of my PCs on all of my accounts combined!

Yeah, I tend to use a lot of classes. :o)

But that makes sense to me as everyone evolves as they grow and hardly anyone sticks with just one thing thier entire life.

Thats how I justify it anyway. ;o)
