The Clueless originating from Toril would certainly have heard of them, however, I'd argue that the chances are that the remaining lot of Clueless and Planars would not have heard of them.

Thus the I'd say the following would be rather acceptable:
- A clueless: I r a Red Wizzard of Thay, yay!
- Planar Commenter: A Red Wizards of They? Go to the Mazes, you sodding 'Tect.

Aye. MadCat and I have met, and I've always enjoyed RPing with him elsewhere. When he came to SCoD and mentioned wanting to play a minion character, we decided that he would play Arvolexia's personal manservant. Thus, Shardek Sigerisk was born. If you see Vex and Shard together, it becomes obvious fairly quickly that he serves her in every capacity, usually without question, and that she is completely comfortable with her role as "master."

That kind of RP is fun for me, and I gave my character (Vex) the understanding that she cannot expect the same deference from other passers-by in Sigil.

However, not-all characters will recognize that, and because of it, they will treat other characters as inferior. That doesn't make the players behind the characters "bad RPers", it simply means that the characters have pompous, overbearing personalities. Nothing wrong with that.

As Ravel stated, it invites RP conflict. And without RP conflict, characters have no challenges to overcome. And without challenges, nothing can progress. In short, Sigil would be a very bland place indeed. =)
