Once more I hear this to be problem. "My character is well connected, one of my employees would know answer to this." Well ask them, did the guy working in storage know it? Probably not unless it hit him with a club or it was written in SIGIS.
If you want to take part of events. Start playing 'your character' everyone else, even those NPCs you claim to have are in-fact DMs command. Yes, NPCs are in DMs command.
Players have command over only their own character and what they are able to summon. DMs have control over everything else. Yes, even your imaginary NPCs that know it all and which you don't even pay anything for real whom should for some reason be the plot device to end well designed DM events, just because you think they should know all things that are supposed to be secret so that your character actually does something for once in their life instead of hanging out in that bar wasting time to do nothing and complain how nothing ever happens.
If you don't want to do any real roleplay or effort and just try to appear biggest badass, don't join events. No offense, but they are meant for people that want to involve themselves into creating their own story and not just suddenly solve it when they choose that they create NPC that can take "I've got answer to all in my back pocket" card in snap of a finger.
Want to involve your so to speak employees? Roleplay, DM will control them and let you know what they 'really' know, not what you 'think' they know.

Stamps this with approval.
Players, seriously, just because you have a thousand recognision points with one DM or another does not mean you automatically win the game. You might have a story where your char had involvement with doomguard, that doesnt mean the doomguard are at your beck and call.
If you want a situation where your entire event is done for you like sandpaper, why are you even here? There is no challange in an event that has the entire thing done like a giant roller coaster ride.
Lets see a good example of why this is bad:
Player: Okay, my agents have gone in before hand, ive paid out the jink for them so you can feel free to go ahead and kill the mobs before hand.
DM: But-
Player 2: Oh right and by the way my guy actually has a key for this. Hes closley tied with the NPC in question involved with this event so we can say he knows already how to get inside.
DM: I-
Player 3: And while your at it, I effectivly vaulted through the window whlie the others did that. Ive braught in my ninja squad and were ready to kill the NPC superiour at beck and call.
DM: Wai-
Player 4: And I blackmailed the captain of the guard so we'll be okay, hes already told the men to look away when we enter.
DM: Y'know what ill just take a break guys so when your done.
See why its bad?
SPECIAL benefits are ENTIRLEY DM decided. No requests, no 'I did this' the DM, decides what you did and didnt do. It grows rather tiresome when a player tries to be special.
It also causes alot of shitstorms.
Player 1: Im going to use my contract with the abyss to summon a powerful succubus to help us get the answer.
Player 2: Wait what the- but I already have a contract of my own, okay fine I do it aswell.
Player 1: Why would you do that nobody needs more than one Succubus here.
Player 2: Because your char is dumb and you wont get us anywhere.
*Argument, Drama, Shitstorm.*
This is exactly what a DM does NOT want to see.
That is WHY you let the DM decide what happens and why the PLAYERS are the only chars you play. Aside from possibly animal familiars and that is IT.
Let me ask you, have you tried getting 9 people in a room to listen to you when they seem to know it all already? No? Then you havent DMed yet.
It isnt as easy as it looks to manage a group of people and the WORST culprits are the solo-players.
There is no I in team and I wont be involving you in any event if you dont WORK with your fellow player.
You are a PLAYER, with other PLAYERS, this isnt WoW where you PUG and start a dungeon, this is DND where you are on an ADVENTURE together, so why dont you spend more time adventuring with each other and less time trying to spotlight.
Example:
Player 1: I, the glorious Maximus Epicus, Paladin of Tyr, shall use my noble steed Fairfax and rally an entire contingent of Solars against this evil!
Player 2: Well... what do we do?
Player 1: Fear not, I have it all covered, just stand there and adore me!
I really, really will PUNCH YOU if you do this.
There is NOTHING that pisses me off more than the vainglorious idiot that tries to get away from the group effort. Your a team, think about what your team can do, commune with each other, dont be shy.
Even the bad guy can pretend to be good, or make use of other chars for their own gain in the long term.
Now, you cant follow those simple guidelines? Then the hell are you even RPing. If you cant even do something WITH another person, your not really RPing at all, your soloing and that my friend, is utterly sad.
Again: No sympathy votes from me, group up, man up, and speak up. If you cant do these things, why even be in an event when you know your either going to do everything everyone else can do, or your just not going to do ANYTHING at all.
For that matter, why do you even RP?

I'll admit, I personally have a tendency to put people in touch with "powerful" entities and organizations as a DM. With that said, however, please don't assume that these NPCs will do ANYTHING for you unless it happens directly with me (or another DM) either in-game or via forum RP. Sure, you might have interacted with Red Shroud or Titivilus or Percy the Planetar a few weeks back... but likely they don't even remember you by now. and even if they do, a casual acquaintance is not going to get you to do things at their whim.
"Oh yeah, those people from Sigil. Wait, weren't they eaten by grues?"
The same goes for RPed organizations. Any action taken by one of these is going to have to be vetted by a DM in advance of any event or forum posting UNLESS THE MEMBERS OF YOUR ORGANIZATION ARE OTHER PCS. If you have an IC accountant/ninja team that you want to involve in an event, then the DM actually doing the event will need to approve its use.
And please, remember we're the DMs. If you want to game that your accountant/ninja team is at your beck and call, then we are equally capable of gaming that they all ate bad shellfish for breakfast and are too busy hunched over their toilets to make it to the event.
Or that your chief accountant/ninja has decided to betray you to your enemies for profit.
